Bed Liners Make Great Pickup Truck Bed Accessories

Pickup Truck Accessories and Pickup Truck Bed Liners

Pickup truck bed liners are perhaps the most important pickup truck bed accessories that you can buy for your vehicle.  We all want to keep our new pickup trucks looking new for as long as possible, and bed liners protect the bed of your truck from dings and scratches from accumulating throughout the life of your pickup truck. The bed liner I have has been with me for 10 years now and has done a great job at keeping my truck looking as young as possible.

Like a lot of pickup truck bed accessories, there are several types of bed liners available and each have their own plusses and minuses.  Here is a rundown of the different types of bed liners.

Spray On Pickup Truck Bed Liners

Spray on bed liners are probably the most popular in terms of what people would prefer if all things were equal.  All things are not equal, however, as the spray on bed liner is more expensive than the other options.

Spray on bed liners are the best option simply because they are literally sprayed into the bed of the pickup truck.  The spray forms a bond and adheres to the bed of the truck.  This keeps the sun, water, dirt, and other materials from being able to reach the pickup.  This helps keep permanent damage such as scratches and rust away.  Other types of bed liners can still allow water and other chemicals to reach the body, but it is just not possible for that to happen with a spray on bed liner.

Since the bed liner is sprayed on it does not require any changes to the frame or body of the vehicle.  There are no screws, bolts, or drills required.

In addition, spray ons are available in a variety of colors, allowing the owner to have the bed liner coordinate color-wise however they wish with the color of the pickup.

With a spray on bed liner you want to make sure that it is installed properly.  While it can be replaced, it is costly and not an easy project.  You want to have it installed correctly the first time.

So while the spray on can be expensive, it is the best way to have a good look and good protection for your truck.

Drop In Pickup Truck Bed Liners

If you are not sure you want to spend the money to get a spray on bed liner, a drop in bed liner can do the trick.  The drop in liner is a piece - or sometimes pieces - of plastic that form to custom fit the bed of your pickup truck.  It is placed in the bed and protects the truck from damage as a result of water, sun, chemicals, or hauling equipment.

Because the bed liner is not permanent, it can be removed fairly easily if you wish to remove or replace it.  It is also usually thicker than a spray on.

Some manufacturers are also able to create a drop in bed liner that can funnel water out of the pickup's bed.  Spray on bed liners do not allow this to happen.

One possible downside is that if the drop in is not installed correctly it could allow water and other materials to get to the truck's body and cause damage.

The drop in liner is what I have always had in my trucks, and I have never had a problem.  They help in the resale value and are a great look.

Pickup Truck Bed Liners - Mats

Mats are the least expensive type of pickup truck bed liners.  Good ones are made of a strong material that can usually roll up when not in use.  Note the phrase "not in use."  If you decide that you do not wan this bed liner in your pickup, you can simply remove it.

A difficult thing can be finding a liner that fits your truck's bed just right.  While spray on liners do not require any kind of fit, and drop in liners are made for each truck model, you might not get a perfect fit with a mat.

Also, despite the fact that mats are manufactured to stay in place, they can still allow foreign objects to get to the sheet metal of the truck.  However, a good mat will still do a great job of protecting your pickup's bed from dents and scratches, and if that is all you are looking for and you do not want to spend a ton of money, the mat is the way to go for your bed liner.

So To Review These Pickup Truck Bed Accessories

As expected, the effectiveness and cost of these types of pickup truck bed liners are typically  inversely proportional.

  Highest   Lowest
Effectiveness Spray On Drop In Mat
Affordability Mat Drop In Spray On

It really depends on what you are looking for.  If you want a permanent look that can help hide blemishes of a damaged bed, the spray on bed liner is a great option.  If you still want a great bed liner at a little lower cost, then the drop in is the way to go.  If you want a simple, easy to use bed liner that can protect against physical damage, and you want it at little cost, then you should look into purchasing a mat.

All people are looking for different things in pickup truck bed accessories, so make sure to shop around to find the best option for you and your vehicle.

How To Go About Getting a Pickup Truck Bed Liner

So the question now is where to get a pickup truck bed liner and other pickup truck bed accessories.  For the spray on and drop in bed liners it is usually a good idea to go to a professional that can do a great job and save you time and headaches.

Bed liner mats can be found at auto parts stores and dealerships.

If you purchase a drop in bed liner or mat you will want to make sure that you find one that fits the bed of your pickup truck.

Of course, nowadays many of your pickup truck bed accessories can be found for purchase online.
