How to Get Rid of Blackheads

By Edited Nov 13, 2013 0 0

What Causes Blackheads and Pimples?

Blackheads are blocked pores or clogged pores that have been bunged up by a combination of oil from the inside of the skin and dirt from the outside. When blocked pores begin to get worse or even infected, blackheads can then form spots and pimples.

It is better to prevent spots and pimples, rather than treat them when they arrive. If you can control what you eat, it can help, as a healthy diet can keep pores clean. Avoid too many fatty foods and chocolate if possible.

Many people naturally have oily skin, which could be controlled by hormones and medication. If your blackheads and pimples are so bad that you are extremely self conscious, visit your doctor and ask for treatment. You may have acne. You shouldn't need to suffer these days - there are many forms of tablets and medical lotions that can help.

If your main concern is your clogged pores and how to get rid of your blackheads, then this article has advice on removing blackheads gently and doing a home facial. As tempting as it may be, avoid squeezing! Your nails are harsh and probably full of bacteria and unseen dirt which can damage the skin. Instead, read on to find out about the best ways to remove blackheads and keep your skin clean.

There are three stages to removing blackheads from your skin with a home facial. Professional facials are great, but can be expensive. So if you follow the simple stages recommended here, you will be able to keep your skin clean and fresh.

STAGE 1 - Opening the Pores

STAGE 2 - Removing Blackheads

STAGE 3 - Cleanse, tone and moisturise to close pores

I have suffered from oily skin and blocked pores for pretty much all of my life.  I know how self conscious it can make you feel, and as a consequence I have tested a lot of products for oily skin. I hope that my review can help you to deal with the problem of blackheads and pimples.

Steaming to Open your Pores

Belson Profiles - Wide Mask Facial Sauna Steamer
Amazon Price: $22.99 Buy Now
(price as of Aug 7, 2013)
Opening your skin's pores before trying to remove blackheads will make it easier and less harsh on your skin. A facial steamer is a great way to do this. This Belson Facial Sauna steamer is the best value on Amazon. Alternatively, you could go to a steam room and sauna at your local spa. The traditional and cheapest way is to pour hot water into a bowl and hold your head over it with a towel covering your head to gather the steam.

Once you have steamed your face, your pores will be open - much better for blackhead removal.

Biore Deep Cleansing Pore Strips, 24 Count

(price as of Aug 7, 2013)
These Biore cleansing pore strips are better than using a blackhead tool, as you don't need to apply pressure to the skin. These Biore cleansing strips work by drawing out the blackheads.

Wash your face, and steam it as described above. Then you apply the Biore cleansing strip to your wet skin and leave to dry for around 15 minutes (make sure that you read and follow the instructions on the pack.

When the strip has hardened and is ready to remove, peel slowly from one edge to the other. You will see that the cleansing strip has drawn the blackheads from your skin. Make sure that you follow up by toning and moisturising.

After Removing Blackheads - Cleanse, Tone and Moisturise

It is extremely important that you cleanse, tone and moisturise after removing blackheads. Remember, once you have removed the blackheads from your skin, you want the pores to close. Leaving them open will leave them prone to clogging up again.

If you can afford a professional facial, you should go for it. They will remove blackheads and do a full cleanse, tone and moisturise for you. But not everyone can afford this, and it is easy enough to do the three step skincare routine at home.

The skincare range that I use for my oily skin is Clinique three step. It is very easy and leaves my oily skin feeling very clean and refreshed. There is a soap or facial wash, toner and moisturiser.

Many people with oily skin avoid moisturising, because they think that adding more moisture will make it worse.  However, this is wrong - it is important for your skin to get moisturised, because without moisture, it will take longer for your spots and pimples to heal. The Clinique moisturising gel is especially designed for oily skin, and allows you to moisturise without feeling like you are clogging up your pores.
