Pistachio Health Benefits

By Edited Dec 12, 2013 0 2

When it comes to proper diet and nutrition, pistachio health benefits are numerous. Plush, these little green nuts are awfully tasty so learning that snacking on them was actually good for me was a very pleasant revelation. Sit back while I outline the many pistachio health benefits that you can enjoy by eating these nuts.

Calories & Fat

Low calories is among the big pistachio health benefits because it means we can eat MORE of them, which is always a good thing for us hungry folks. Am I right? Yeah, that's what I thought. A one ounce serving of pistachios is only 160 calories which is tied with cashew as the lowest calorie nuts. (You didn't know that about cashews, did you? Yeah, they're pretty awesome too, but I digress...) Almonds and hazelnuts have a little bit more calories while macadamia nuts and pecans are pretty high calorie foods. All of these nuts are good for you but if you have to watch calories and really like to eat, pistachios are a better choice for you. Pistachios and cashews are also tied as the lowest fat nuts which is probably why the calories are lower too.

You're probably thinking that since they are low calorie, pistachios don't offer much protein. Nope, they are actually tied with almonds at a full six grams of protein per serving which is much higher than most nuts. Again, the pistachio health benefits are surprising and awesome. What can't this little nut do?

Pistachios contain high amounts of Beta-carotene, Lutein, Potassium, Vitamin B-6, Thiamin, Phosphorous and dietary fiber. It's almost shocking when you see the nutritional values of pistachios when compared to other nuts. It's a shame that the pistachio isn't promoted more as a great health food but take advantage of the general publics ignorance and go pick up a big bag so you can spend the evening enjoying pistachio health benefits.
