Plan Your Ski Vacation on a Budget
The snow is falling and you are dreaming of that perfect ski vacation. Or maybe you are fantasizing about hitting the perfect mountain this season to give your new snowboard a whirl. Regardless if you snow board or ski, an inexpensive vacation is a realistic possibility.
The current economical woes are a blessing to those of us that can't wait to hit the slopes. While North American ski resort profits have remained fairly steady in this economic downturn, most resorts aren't taking any chances and are offering special offers and discounted lift tickets to draw the crowds. This benefits you because you can cash in on the deals.
Decide how much you want to spend before you decide where you want to go. A package deal can save you money on every thing from accommodations to ski rentals and lessons. If you are flying, look into airfare plus car rental packages to save a bit of green.
Where to stay is the next important question after you decide where to ski or snowboard. With minimal research, you will find quite a few reasonable places. Be open when researching accommodations and don't limit yourself to hotels. Cabins, house or condo rentals, and lodges are all great alternatives that may save you money.
Renting a house or condo makes the most sense if you are going to be staying for five days or more. You can maximize the savings my sharing the rental with a friend or relative. An example would be the popular Tremblant ski area. Mont Tremblant accommodations run the usual broad range of prices, but an average hotel room is going to run around $150. If you team up with another person you can rent a condo with living rooms, kitchens, laundry facilities, multiple bedrooms, and all the other conveniences you're used to back home for the same price if not less.
Another way to save money on your ski vacation is to minimize eating out. Have breakfast in your room before heading out. Try and pay for only one meal a day and prepare the rest yourself. This is particularly easy if you decide to rent a house or condo on your trip. Bring your own snacks so you won't be tempted by the expensive offering at the resorts or lodges and spend your food dollars when you can actually sit down and enjoy the meal.
A quality ski or snowboarding vacation is easier than you think. Have fun planning your trip with travel tips and maximize your dollar with a little research.
