Plastic Surgery Costs

By | Dec 7, 2009 | 0 Comments | Rating: 0

There is more to determining plastic surgery costs than one might initially believe. The size of the treatment area, the type of treatment, the technique involved and the clinic's physical location are all factors influencing plastic surgery costs. Basically, the larger sized areas will cost more because it usually takes more work. The exact treatment and technique that will be used could affect the tools required and could be more or less difficult than the alternative. The plastic surgery market of the geographical region dictates the rates so clinics have to price accordingly.

Larger body areas will cost more than smaller areas. This is simply for the fact that small areas are quicker and require less work. Smaller procedures generally carry smaller plastic surgery risks as well.

The cost per treatment area can influence each other as well if they are to be combined into one session. Getting multiple areas treated at once will cost less than multiple individual sessions. It is cheaper to do work on multiple areas in a single session to make the most of the efforts of setting up and preparing the patient for surgery.

There are many different plastic surgery procedures and each one will differ in cost from another. The procedures can be grouped by likeness since similar procedures will be priced similarly and are usually based on the complication of the technique involved.

Major surgeries that require sedation of the patient will cost more than procedures where local anesthesia is administered. The difference in anesthetic dosages make up a big part of the final cost of surgery. An anesthesiologist will have to administer higher doses of the drug which also adds to the cost. The risks of plastic surgery includes the dangers associated with anesthesia administration.

Most clinics will initially quote and advertise only the surgeon's fee since this is probably the only fee that is an item in every procedure. There are many more types of costs that have to be added in for each procedure. The use of the facilities is sometimes called a hospital fee or facility fee which can cost between $500 and $2000. The average procedure will run up about $1,000 in anesthesia charges. Any specialized equipment or tools that the particular type of surgery requires will usually also be billed to the patient.
