Plus Size Jeans For Women

By Edited Nov 13, 2013 0 1

If you are looking for Plus Size Jeans for Women you should know that there is the good, the bad and the downright ugly and ill fitting.

Plus size jeans don’t have to be “a fashion don’t”. You should know however, that there are great jeans for plus size ladies which are comfortable and create a slimming effect. For the most part, plus size jeans which rank at the top of the list are generally designed for women by women (it’s important to note that these designers are often full figured themselves). Additionally the best jeans for full figured ladies are also made of figure flattering materials including: elastane or spandex. When looking at your jean labels you should be careful to notice the distribution of   spandex-of course the higher percentage the more give.

But be careful that any of those forgiving fabrics-particularly spandex- doesn't trend over 3 or 4%, as they could have a tendency to buckle or gap, particularly after washing. What makes a jean a jean is still the denim/cotton foundation-so don't be tricked into believing that you need a lot of spandex or elastane to keep it flattering. You need a) a jean that fits, b) 2-3% spandex stretch, c) a good inseam which at least clears the back of your shoe or heel d) a nice dark rinse to keep a fuller figure looking elongated and slimmer.

This guide will go from most expensive to least expensive

1. CJ by Cookie Johnson: sizes 14-24

Plus Size Jeans for Women: Cookie Johnson

Cookie Johnson isn't just fabulous because she is married to one of the greatest basketball players of all time: Magic Johnson, she's also touted for revolutionizing the jean for curvy women.  Cookie Johnson actually considers herself a curvy woman and was inspired to design jeans for plus size women basically because all of her premium jeans from department stores had to be altered either in the thigh or butt area. Larger women usually have larger bottoms. These CJ premium jeans have a slightly higher rise and have great back detailing which lifts and narrows the butt area. Of course, these jeans aren't cheap (price range from $135 to $265) but they are well worth the investment in that they are wash well, particularly the dark rinse and hold their shape after numerous washings.  I highly recommend these jeans for their wear and comfort level as well. These are actually some of the most comfortable jeans that I've ever worn as a size 14 or 32 inch waist. CJ by Cookie Johnson are measured by the waist and not by the American dress size.

2. Svoboda Jeans sizes 14-24 (also available in tall sizes)

These plus size jeans were designed by a young lady named Jessica Svoboda with a design degree from the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising (FIDM, Los Angeles). She also happens to be a plus size designer who designs with the curvier, full figured and muscular women in mind, who are harder to fit for the average department store premium jean. What makes Jessica's jeans so special is the "360 degree" jean is touted as having the comfort of a knit pant and the look of a jean. You'll notice that Svoboda jeans have a slightly higher banded waist and great back pocket placement and fabrication for that divine butt lift as well. Jessica's 360 degree knit pants have a 98% cotton/ 2% spandex blend. The other thing that makes Svoboda plus size jeans so fabulous is her other line of jeans: TLC. This line has her own "architectural blend" with a 72% cotton, 28% elasterell. I now I wrote in beginning of this article to stay away from spandex or elastane fabrics over 3% because of the bagging issues. But Svoboda's TLC jeans are made with a heavier weight of denim/cotton which resists the sagging and bagging. Her proprietary custom blend is the exception and should be worn by any plus size woman looking for a great plus size jean. The average price of these premium denim jeans are $118.

3. Lane Bryant (sizes 14-28, also available in tall sizes as well)

Lane Bryant also has great plus size jeans for women at affordable prices. Not just because they are a plus size store for women, but because they really have narrowed down their plus size jeans into varying categories-because not every curvy or plus size woman is shaped in the same way. They have jeans which address plus size women who are narrower at the waist, are rounder overall and wider at the waist. All of their jeans have a cotton/spandex blend, though not noted directly on the site regarding distributions. Lane Bryant jeans also have been well noted to address issues with spandex and bagging out overtime. One of Lane Bryant's highest rated jeans of all time is the Bootcut jean with Tighter Tummy Technology.

Great help and direction here for plus size ladies. I am plus size but on the smaller side, and I find it hard to find great style, as I have skinny legs and am all belly.
