For many of us coffee lovers out there we have been in the market to bring the café experience into our own home.  We have been spoilt with choice with the variety of coffee machines out there and today one of the most popular newcomers is the pod coffee variety.  Now I admit there is a raging debate about if regular espresso machines of pod machines are better but let me highlight some of the benefits of pod machines and why I use them.

Cleaning and Maintenance

Pod machines are infinitely easier to keep up.  You do not have to deal with grinding beans and used coffee cakes.  Instead the beans are supplied to you pre-grinded and stay enclosed within the pod.  This means that once you are finished making your drink, all you have to do is throw away the capsule and you are good to go.

Variety

For many of us variety is the spice of like and with pod machines we can now bring this to our home coffee experience.  You can buy an infinite variety of blends and intensities of coffee to suit any palate.  It is even possible to have so-called designer flavors such as caramel and hazelnut as well.  This is a vastly different world to the more traditional machines where most of us buy a large bag of beans meaning we are stuck to the same blend and flavor time after time until we have gone through the bag which could be more than 100 individual coffees.  Having several varieties on hand is also really cool when you are entertaining as you can ask your guests what flavor and strength they prefer and adds a touch of class and sophistication to your event.  I even tend to keep two separate options of stronger pods for the morning and weaker ones for my evening drink to make sure that I can get a good night’s sleep.

Portability

Going away for the summer holidays?  You can easily take your machine with you, all that you need is a power source.  Pod machines are lightweight and relatively portable I have even taken mine camping before – who said just because you are “roughing it” you can’t get a good latte in the morning?

Milk Frothing

My absolute favorite feature of my machine is the frothed milk maker.  Unlike traditional ones, which required you to use the pipe to inject steam into the milk, the modern pod machines run using a magnetic ring whereby you can push a button and hey presto a few moments later your cold milk is magically transformed into hot froth for you to mix with your shot of coffee.

Overall I feel for the reasons outlined above that pod coffee machines are the way to go and I have yet to be disappointed with my morning coffee and even stopped heading to the local café as much.
