Pomegranate benefits have been known since ancient times. It’s said that the pomegranate tree flourished in the Garden of Eden. The ancient Chinese believed pomegranate juice was a longevity drug. This nutrient is shown to help prevent cancer. In one University of Wisconsin School of Medicine study, scientist noticed that the greater the amount of pomegranate extract, the quicker prostate cancer cells began to die. Another study says that pomegranates may reduce breast cancer by up to 87%.

2) Heart Health – In several human trials, the antioxidants in pomegranates have been found to be effective in reducing heart risk factors including arteriosclerosis and heart disease. Israeli scientist say that pomegranates protect the heart by preventing thickening of the arteries.

3) Reduce Alzheimers – A ten year study found that the strong antioxidants act to reduce the incidence of Alzheimer’s disease.

4) Oral health – The pomegranate is believed to possess antiviral and antiseptic properties. It helps maintain oral health, helps relieve cold sores, throat infections and even strengthen gums.

5) Quicker Healing – In one study, 10 patients were clogged arteries were given pomegranate juice. After a year, they healed better than the control group.

6) Lowering Blood Pressure – Several compounds in pomegranates can disrupt the biochemical leading to high blood pressure by preventing the degradation of an important vasodilating agent. One Israeli study showed that subjects with high blood pressure dropped by 21% after consuming pomegranate juice every day for a year.

7) Fertility – Around 470 A.D., the pomegranate was considered a fertility symbol in China and eaten by childless women. Today, scientist have found that pomegranate juice increases penile blood flow and improved overall erection health.
