There are two types of pools, the in-ground and the above-ground pool, both need cleaning and a regular maintenance schedule or else the water will begin to take on a grayish tinge and the pool to look most uninviting!
Some of the equipment you will need to invest in to keep your pool clean and debris free and to keep the water sparkling clean include:
Vacuum: The floor of your pool needs regular cleaning and a pool vacuum can do the job very well. You have a wide range to choose from and will need to study your own requirements carefully first before you buy. Vacuum cleaners have a head, hose attachment and telescoping pole. You attach the vacuum head to the pole and the hose to the skimmer. Before you begin, submerge the hose and head under water and then attach it to the skimmer, the air will be removed when you do this. You can buy a manual vacuum that makes use of pump pressure to suction up the debris or you can get an automatic vacuum cleaner. Very efficient and energy saving but expensive; you can attach it to the suction line and every time your pump is operated the vacuum will clean the pool. If you have a big budget you can buy a computer controlled and programmable machine.
Pool pump: both in-ground and above-ground pools depend on a reliable pump system, which is possibly the most important piece of pool cleaning equipment. It is best that you invest in a high performance pump; you will be buying durability and corrosion resistant functionality. Pumps are available with different features and you can choose according to your needs and budget.
Pool filter: yet another very important part of the cleaning operation; you will find most filters make use of sand or a cartridge element to filter water; some also use diatomaceous earth for filtering water. Filters have to be cleaned and washed regularly for them to do their job effectively.
Skimmer and pump basket: an effective skimmer will prevent leaves and other large debris from reaching the filter, trapping it in the pump basket. You need to empty the basket regularly and always check for wear and tear.
Leaf skimmer: useful for removing leaves, debris and dirt that fall into the pool; just scoop up and dump. This handy little piece of equipment is useful for preventing the filter from getting clogged. You can attach it to the telescoping pole of the vacuum after removing the head.
Leaf net: good for people who live in climatic zones that experience autumn; the leaf fall rate is tremendous and you cannot keep skimming over the water with your net, you will do that and nothing else. Spread a leaf net over your pool and secure it firmly on all sides, it will trap all the leaves that fall off the trees, saving you lots of pool cleaning work.
Buy brushes for cleaning the walls and scrubbing the floor of the pool; cleaning chemicals for killing algae and sanitizing the water.
Set up a pool cleaning schedule and stick to it to enjoy a fantastic looking pool!
