Pork is a very versatile meat to cook with, but the pork chop unfortunately is sometimes a much maligned piece of meat. Many people think that the best way to cook the poor pork chop is to fry it to death in a frying pan. Now fortunately there are many different pork chop recipes that will not only give your taste buds a work out, they will also give you a much better appreciation of the humble pork chop.

The pork chop is actually a cut of meat that is located near the spine of the pig. It usually contains a part of the vertebrae or the rib that is served as part of an individual portion. The pork chop is regularly exhibited as one of the favourite foods of Homer Simpson from The Simpsons television program. There are many different variations to the humble pork chop including one which is similar to a T-bone steak, this comes from the centre portion of the pig. Then there is the rib portion from the loin which is very similar to the rib eye steak of beef.

When you are purchasing pork chops for your chop recipes, you should look for a pork chop that is at least three quarters of an inch thick. This is because of the bone that is present in most pork chops. Meat that is next to the bone always takes a bit longer to cook than the meat which is away from the bone. This means that if you use a thin pork chop in your pork chop recipes the outside meat is going to cook a lot quicker than the meat closer to the bone therefore leaving the outside meat very dry. Also, cooking temperatures are going to affect how dry your pork chop ends up. Any damaging bacteria that are present in your meat will be destroyed at between 150° and 160°, so if you cook your pork chops at around 160° you are not only going to be assured of safe meat for your recipe but you are also going to enjoy a tasty and juicy pork chop.

There are many easy pork chop recipes but this one for barbecued pork chops will take about five minutes in preparation time and roughly 20 minutes cooking time. Before you start you'll need about half a cup of your favorite barbecue sauce, a quarter of a cup of pineapple juice, two vanilla pods, one large garlic clove which has been minced up, 1 teaspoon of allspice, and six three-quarter inch pork chops. Now, the cooking instructions are very simple. You need to mix all the ingredients together in a bowl and use to coat the chops. Once your barbecue is heated sufficiently and the barbecue coals are just right you should grill your pork chops for about 10 minutes on each side. Keep turning the pork chops and applying the barbecue sauce with a brush as you do so. This pork chop recipe is delicious served with a nice crispy salad or some potato chips.
