Portable Gas Grills
First, ,many portable gas grills designed for patio use are portable in that they have wheels on them and can be movedâor luggedâfrom place to place using these wheels. Some of these portable gas grills can be attached to a home gas line and others use a canister. (The least expensive ones use only canisters while some of the most expensive ones are only capable of being attached to a built in gas line.)
Many grills of this type of features and performance similar to that of a full-size in kitchen stove. Such "portable" gas grills can include warming areas, as many as a dozen burners, and a variety of other features designed to improve the cook's experience. Such "portable gas grills", however, really aren't portable at all. Second, smaller portable gas grills are designed for backpacking. They are truly "grills" in that they have grill plates and as many as four burners. They are small, collapsible and easily fit into a typical truck. The smallest ones may even fit into a backpack (although they aren't tiny). These camping grills are useful for camping. They rarely have the features or convenience of a larger grill and can't be hooked directly to a gas line without serious work.
Finally, individual camp stoves are also gas powered and thus qualify as gas grills. These devices (colloquially called Coleman Stoves for the name of the camping gear manufacturer that popularized them) are grills in theory although they are quite small. The smallest and most compact of them, indeed, are no larger than a typical can of food. Besides the ability to adjust the level of flame, they have few of the conveniences of the larger, better designed grills but they are surely portable and can easily fit into a backpack. The smallest ones, indeed, are literally pocket sized (although very hard to cook on.) They use little fuel and can never be hooked to a gas line. Instead, users of these portable gas grills need to fill the stoves themselves with gas.
Using a portable gas grill successfully requires different skills depending on the type of grill being used. A wheel mounted patio portable gas grill, for example, is not much different from a stove and can accommodate all manner of pots and pans. A small camp stove, however, requires an entirely different set of cooking skills and, although its easier to regulate, cooking using it is very much like cooking over a camp fire. To figure out how to use a given type of grill, the best advice is to practice quite a bit cooking on that type of grill and use recipies specifically formulated for that type of portable gas grill.
Finally, it's important to note that all portable gas grills use highly flammable gas. None of them are toys and all of them should be kept away from children, mentally challenged people, and the like.Portable Gas Grills can add value to your outdoor cooking experience when you want to bbq on the go.
