Portable Propane Heaters: Propane Space Heaters For Indoors and Outdoors

By Edited Aug 25, 2016 0 0

The benefits of a portable propane heater:

While they are mainly used outdoors, portable propane heaters can be an extremely effective means of heating large and small spaces both indoors and outdoors. Propane space heaters come in a variety of sizes, and shapes and can be used in many different applications. Whether you are heating a restaurant patio, having a gathering in your backyard, or need a quick and easy way to heat up your workshop, garage or shed, there is surely a portable propane heater made for you.

There are both advantages and disadvantages to using a propane heater over an electric or gas unit. The biggest advantage by far is true portability. Unlike electric or gas space heaters which require either an extension cord or gas line, propane heaters can be used literally anywhere you can take a propane tank. They are great for log cabins out in the woods where electricity is scarce, or in old buildings where the power draw of an electric unit would be too large. They are much easier to install and operate than most electric and gas units as well.

The major disadvantage of a propane space heater is the fact that it must be refilled when the tank is empty. It is not a sustainable source of heat that you can install and not think about ever again. Additionally because of the nature of the heat source, it is recommended that propane heaters be used only in rooms with adequate ventilation, whereas an electric heater needs no ventilation to operate safely.

Depending on the application in which you intend to use your portable space heater, there are a few different designs that may suit your needs.

Forces Air Propane

Forced Air Propane Heaters

Sometimes called a torpedo heater because of its shape, forced air propane heaters are the simplest form of propane heat. A fan is used to force the hot air out of the chamber after being heated from the propane flame. There are usually no advanced features to a forced air torpedo heater so generally they are the most cost effective way to get an area heated quickly.

Portable propane heaters such as the Big Buddy Heater are great for tailgating, camping, hunting, sheds, and ice fishing. They are small enough to carry, but powerful enough to heat a midsized room. They operate off of either a small camping stove propane tank, or can connect to up to a 20lbs tank of propane that will operate for days.

Made to look like a lamp post, often constructed of stainless steel or bronze, propane patio heaters are a great addition to your deck or porch if you'd like to gather outside comfortably in colder weather. They heat up to 200sq feet of outdoors, and offer robust features like one click starters, and auto shutoff heat sensors.

Whatever your reason for wanting the portability of a propane heater, there is more than likely a solution that fits your budget and your tastes if you know what you are looking for. I hope this article helped you do just that.
