Pregnancy And Correct Posture
Most, if not all, pregnant mothers experience at least some back pain during pregnancy, especially in the third trimester when the baby gets bigger and heavier. Sciatic nerve pain and an aching lower back are the most common pains, although some mothers also get a pinched nerve, depending on the baby's position in the womb that causes pain down their leg as well.
The good news is, however, that a lot of pregnancy back pain can be avoided with proper posture and posture exercises since bad posture plays a very important role in increasing the back pains. Standing and sitting properly can help to reduce or even eliminate most of the back pain that is commonly associated with pregnancy. Certain stretches and exercises are also good for the back muscles and will play a vital role in making your back feel a whole lot better.
Some tips for good pregnancy posture are: stand straight and try to keep your stomach pulled in a bit, as this helps the lower back not to curve so much. Maintaining a good pelvic tilt is also important. Pull in your buttock muscles to keep your center of gravity over your hips as this makes it a lot easier on your lower back muscles. Avoid locking your knees as that puts more pressure on the lower back. Be sure to choose a chair that allows for good posture when you sit down. While you might prefer a chair with a soft back, or a nice comfortable sofa, a straight back chair is actually a lot better for your back.
Other good tips to keep in mind are: choose the right shoes. You should never wear high heeled shoes when pregnant, as not only do they increase back pain but they are not safe; the bigger your tummy gets the less sense of balance you have and you can easily have a nasty fall. Also, you should avoid sleeping or laying on your back as you get along in your pregnancy as the baby's weight will put pressure on the blood vessels in your back. This is harmful to the baby as when this happens it means that the baby gets less blood flow from the placenta.
Correct posture for pregnant women is very important for the health of the mother as well as for baby. Taking few precautions as mentioned above will give a long way in keeping good health for mother and child.
