Breastfeeding While Pregnant

It is a myth among many people that one should stop breastfeeding while pregnant. Even the doctors not long ago actually believed that breastfeeding while pregnant deprived the newborn in the foetus from lot of nutrients. However, nothing can be far from the truth because it has been proved medically that it has absolutely no effect as far as the nutrients to newborn or the mother are concerned.

Despite all the medical claims about breastfeeding while pregnant, doubts still persists in minds of some. It is adequate to know that this is not true. In practical terms, only a mother would be the best judge of whether she should stop breastfeeding while pregnant, by the way she feels.

Reasons for stopping breastfeeding while pregnant

There are many reasons due to which young mothers stop breastfeeding while pregnant. At times, there is simply not adequate milk being produced and hence the child remains hungry for want of nutrients. It is then time to supplement milk with something else like external feed.

This leaves the mother exhausted and relentlessly tired and hence it is time to restrict your toddler from breastfeeding while pregnant. Another important but a rare reason is when one has an infection such as mastitis, breastfeeding while pregnant must be stopped immediately.

Whatever the reason to stop breastfeeding while pregnant, one must be sure it is the right one. The age of your toddler is surely an important decisive criterion. When someone decides to stop or restrict breastfeeding while pregnant, care should be taken that it is never be stopped abruptly and done gradually in a phased manner.

Try to limit the feeding timings initially to a few hours every day, gradually restricting it to just the mornings and the bedtimes. Most children learn to tolike the alternatives and find it to be more palatable than mother's milk. This is a great relief to a mother and saves from the severe guilt pangs. Weaning the child in a gradual manner is the best way to restrict and finally stop breastfeeding while pregnant.


Whether To Continue Breastfeeding While Pregnant

A doctor is the best person to advise you if you plan on breastfeeding while pregnant. Because she has been monitoring your health, she may not be as ignorant as you are.

Discuss it with friends and family if you are not in agreement with the doctor's advice. Don't get stressed out on this issue, being pregnant could be a testing time. during such moments, an elder's presence in the family is a boon but don't be amazed. They could be the best advisers at the moment; they have their experience to tell from. There is no harm, after all it's up to you to implement or follow. In case you don't have a family member living with you, try finding social support groups in a nearby area so as to find someone to talk to about such issues. Do check out a La Leche League in the neighborhood or maybe find one online.

The most important thing is that it's only you who can decide on breastfeeding while pregnant. And on the condition that all remain healthy, you can unhesitatingly continue breastfeeding while pregnant.
