Prenatal Tablets
Pregnancy is a time when women need to ensure not just their own health but that of the baby being carried in the womb. Prenatal tablets can be a pregnant woman's best ally in thwarting the deleterious elements in the environment or in her genetic makeup which increase the risks of defects in the unborn child.
Vitamins and minerals, naturally occurring substances that may be obtained from eating fresh fruits, vegetables and whole grain cereals, can supply the essential vitamins expectant moms need. If, for some reason, like busy schedules & lack of time to purchase healthy foods, pregnant women cannot get the vital nutrients like folic acid they need, prenatal tablets come in as a good substitute. Actually, multivitamins are very important not just for women who are already awaiting a date with the stork, but those who are still in the planning stage of having a baby, or are of child-bearing age Multivitamins can keep the mind and body agile, and ward off illnesses that may get in the way of a productive life.
As far as pregnant women are concerned, prenatal tabletsmay help prevent birth defects. A specific example is folic acid, which may be obtained from eating foods like broccoli, asparagus, cereal, beans, red beet, green onion, cottage cheese, carrots, and tomatoes.
Inadequate folic acid heightens the risk of neural tube defects like Spina bifida (whereby the bones surrounding the spinal cord do not close up about seven months after fertilization, thereby causing spinal fluid/cord to stick out through the lower back). There may be other conditions arising from deficiency of folic acid, like anencephaly. A daily prenatal vitamin containing at least one milligram of folic acid, preferably taken a few months before conception, can fill nutritional gaps.
Some prenatal tablets contain different vitamins and minerals. Pregnant women generally need more folic acid, calcium, iron, protein and other essential nutrients. Also essential are vitamins A, C, D, E, niacin, potassium, among others.
