Pretty Storage Boxes

If you're going to put the box at the back of the closet or in the garage, you probably don't need anything aesthetically pleasing, but if your storage units will be widely seen, you might want to purchase something that looks nice. Pretty storage boxes are certainly not as common as the typical, plain, plastic options, but they can be found. If you're looking for something pretty and decorative, you'll probably have the most luck at craft stores.

Storage boxes that are both colorful and decorative are usually cardboard. They are often used for photo or paper organization and are typically around the size of a shoe box. Some can be larger or smaller, deeper or thinner, depending on what the store carries. These boxes cost several dollars and can either be a solid color or designed. Cardboard storage boxes, no matter how pretty though, are still easily prone to breakage and moisture. These types of boxes don't last as long and are not easily fixed or cleaned.

As far as sturdy storage units go, it's difficult to find a basic cube storage box with lid that is pretty. Unless you consider clear or colored plastic to be pretty, you're probably out of luck. However, if you don't need a lid for your storage box, you can also choose from a number of baskets and bins that are very nice. These types of storage units fit well on shelves and are great for piling toys, shoes, socks, or movies. Baskets and soft-sided bins are typically quite a bit more expensive, but they are pretty and will fit well into most decorating schemes. The two cons to using these storage containers is the lack of a protective lid as well as the lack of stacking ability.

Storage isn't necessarily meant to be pretty, but that is not to say that you cannot make storage pleasing to the eye. Pretty storage boxes may be hard to come by, especially if you're looking for something both practical and sturdy. However, with the great trend towards storage these days, you should be able to find storage boxes that will fit beautifully in any room.
