Prevention and treatment of pinworms - What simple measures to remove these small intestinal worms
Benign parasite,
pinworms are sources of night waking in children. But, how to identify
effective measures to eradicate them, and looking for the symptoms and
treatment.
Western countries are, in terms of hygiene,
countries "sanitized" in which many parasites are endangered. It
remains one that most often affects the young children, so contagious that
family and close friends are quickly affected: it is pinworms. But to take the
necessary steps, we must know and track the worm once the diagnosis, treatment
and take precautions against a possible recurrence.
Pinworms
and symptoms
Pinworms are tiny white worms that live very thin
in the distal small intestine and, at night, migrating out of the anus to lay
their eggs in the folds of skin. The presence of these worms is often detected
by mothers who are at the anal region of the child or the surface of the stool.
However, doubt persists sometimes. In this case, it is necessary to conduct a
test. This is very simple: just put a piece of tape over the anus of the child
and have him examined by a laboratory analysis. If eggs are present, they will
adhere to the tape and are easily detected.
Symptoms caused by these little worms are of
different natures. There is, first, the itching in the anal area or vagina,
where eggs are deposited. The itch is not serious, but if the child scratches,
there are risks of injury that may be infected.
Other common symptoms: sleep disturbance and
nightmares. Indeed, insofar as females descended at night into the anus to lay
eggs, this is when the child is most bothered by these pests.
There is a third symptom, but more rare digestive
disorder. Indeed, the child may be suffering from stomach pains and diarrhea.
Treatment
and care anti-relapse
Formerly, children were treated with a dewormer
proactively. Today, it treats the child as if the disease is confirmed, using a
pesticide administered in two doses. An initial decision will eliminate adult
worms already. The second decision, a fortnight later, will eliminate the
parasites that have hatched in the meantime. The most commonly used molecules
are pyrvinium, pyrantel and fluobenzole.
Before the contagiousness of the disease it is
necessary to treat the whole family. In addition, to avoid any risk of
recurrence, it is important to thoroughly clean towels and bedding.
