Proper Application of Tanning Lotions

By | Oct 20, 2009 | 0 Comments | Rating: 0

The dangers of tanning lotions are really in the improper application and tanning rather than the solution of the lotion itself. Tanning lotions that are DHA based are considered especially safe. Knowing the right type of lotion to use in particular situations is the key to safe tanning.

There are always precautions that must be taken when tanning. The worse thing that can happen with an indoor tanning lotion itself is a skin reaction such as a rash or irritation. These side effects are usually mild and treatable with common home remedies.

Nevertheless, it is important to test the lotion on a small area of skin if it is a new lotion. Leave the application for 24 hours and if no negative reactions occur then it is safe to proceed and apply the lotion to the rest of the body.

The important thing to remember for beginners is that a base must be developed first before venturing into more advanced products. Tingle lotions should be avoided for first timers because it can cause burning to the skin if used improperly. Tingle lotions rely on oils and chemicals to increase blood flow to the skin which is suppose to aid in the production of melanin when exposed to UV radiation.

An accelerator is used to speed up the rate of tanning to the skin and is generally okay to use if the product is matched to the skin tone. Very fair skins should be wary and be safe about the SPF and light intensities they are exposed to. An accelerator moisturizes and hydrates the skin to boost melanin production in a safe way.

Tanning naturally dries the skin so tanning lotions that offer moisturizing is always a good idea. Products that contain SPF protection are always a good idea so the oils work while the SPF protects against burns. The key to an enjoyable tanning experience is using the right product. You can always find cheap tanning lotions online to start with.
