Properly Using Outdoor Pole Lighting

One of the most useful, yet also the most misused types of lighting out on the market today is pole lighting. Used correctly, these lights cast a great deal of functional, soft lights that adds a lot to the functionality and beauty of your property. However, if you use them wrong, These lights can take a lot way from your lighting plans. Here are a few ways that you can properly and improperly use pole lights on your property.

Outdoor pole lighting is incredibly useful because it casts a wide circle of diffuse, soft light. This provides a great deal of light for different tasks and areas that are high traffic, but it can also be its downfall. This is because most decorative outdoor lighting does best when you direct the lighting right at the object you want to light. This can create a dramatic effect as the light plays with the shadows cast across your yard. You need to be very careful with where you install your pole lights, but if you install them in the correct areas, you won't regret it.

One great way to use an outdoor light pole is for outdoor patio lighting. It is almost made for this purpose. You can place a light pole anywhere on your patio and the lantern attached to it will cast a large circle of light that will give you enough light to read or eat your dinner by, but not enough to ruin the rest of the nighttime atmosphere. For the same reason, they also work for deck lighting as well.

Another great place to use a light pole is in high traffic pathways. For most people, this will be the entrance to your driveway or a path that lead from your driveway to your home. Installing pole lights here makes your property more appealing from the road and even more welcoming to visitors. Aside from beauty benefits, these lights are also a way that you can add a little bit of safety to backing into and out of your driveway. Since your driveway will be better lit, other cars will be more likely to see you backing in and out and you'll be at a reduced risk for an accident.

Finally, you can install pole lighting around your home's entrances. This will also make your home more welcoming, but will also help you out if you have a habit of coming home at night and fumbling for your keys. A well-lit doorway will also make thieves think twice about stealing from your home as they will be more likely to be seen.
