Protecting Your Company Data with a Secure Data Backup Service

By | Dec 28, 2010 | 0 Comments | Rating: 0

Data backup is critical to business continuity and processing opportunities. Data backup is needed for protection and restoration of your files if a crisis occurs that deletes or corrupts your business files.

Many companies accomplish their private data backup for their business needs. However, many small or upstart companies do not have the income or resources to do their own data backup. Therefore, there are companies that provide this service for you. These are remote or offsite data backup resources that a company may use for a monthly or annual fee. The data backup company is responsible for the maintenance and operating expenses or overhead of this service for the fee that is paid.

Offsite data backup companies provided one of two services. Some companies will provide software backup services. The software backup companies will only backup the data you provide to them. There are also full service backup companies. The full service will do all of the work for you.

Decide what type of service you need for your data backup services. Will you need simply software backup or do you need a full service backup company?

Request what access you will have to your data and how much control you will have. The offsite back up company should provide the same policies that you would afford if you had your back up onsite at your personal company premises. An individual from the company should be assigned to your personal account for personal contact and responsibility. You should have the option to contact this individual for your services.

Find out if your data is encrypted and at what level. Security should be the major concern with the offsite provider. They should have a high level of encryption to assure security of your data.

Is the offsite provider's building or facilities secured? What type of security do they have? Make sure your data is also physically safe.

Selecting a data backup provider is important and critical to your business needs. However, you want to make sure that you choose one that secures your data, makes the data accessible to you when you need it and provide a consultant or personal contact for you to work with.
