Pules Model Jet Engine

A pulse model jet engine is fairly simple, but it can produce amazing power. The structure consists of little more than a hollow tube that generates thrust by combusting fuel in rapid pules. This design is very basic, which makes this engine very cheap and easy for amateurs to obtain. Flying and building a plane with this engine only requires basic equipment and skills, unlike other model jet designs. Pulse engines are frequently used for many different types of model planes, but it is most popular on model jets.

There are two distinct designs for the pulse jet. Some jet engines rely on a single-way valve intake to control the airflow, but the pulse engine does not have any parts that move. Instead, it relies solely on the shape of the engine to control the amount of air flowing through. However, both of these designs use the same airflow principles and operate in the same way. Fuel gets ignited inside the combustion chamber and is forced through the narrow exhausts as it explodes. This sequence produces thrust that moves the model jet forward.

For some, it may appear that the model jet engine chamber would explode, causing the aircraft to momentarily lurch forward, but then lose its momentum. However, the initial explosion is only one step in the combustion cycle. As the exhaust is being blown out, it lessens the pressure in the combustion chamber. One the pressure drops, fresh air is drawn into the tube, restarting the combustion process. To keep the model jet moving forward, this process must happen repeatedly without stopping.

If the pulse jet has a valve, there will be an air trapdoor to prevent the exhaust fumes from blowing into the intake. No-valve engines eliminate this problem by pointing the exhaust and intake valves in the same direction. When the gas ignites, some exhaust may be blown into the intake, but it will still blow out of the engine because of the low pressure. The nice thing about this design is that there are no moving parts, making them better able to stand against damage.

Pules engines are often associated with the V-1 German Bomber engine, since the designs are very similar. This plane was called the buzzlebomb because of the distinctive noise it made. New advances in military aircraft caused the pulse design to become outdate, but it is still used in many recreation airplanes.
