Purchasing Wedding Insurance
With many of today's weddings costing as much as the bride and groom's parents paid for their first house, a question every soon-to-be wed couple needs to think about is, "Should we be purchasing wedding insurance?".
Life Happens
There are many bad scenarios that can come up unexpectedly. By purchasing wedding insurance, the bride and groom afford themselves the chance to postpone the wedding and not lose all of their hard earned deposit money.
Here are some instances that would make purchasing wedding insurance necessary:
If there is a member of the family who is terminally ill and dies around the time of the wedding, the bride and groom will want to postpone their nuptials. No one can predict exactly when someone is going to die, and purchasing wedding insurance gives the bridal couple monetary piece of mind should the worse case scenario happens.
Also, if there is a grandparent who is in frail health, purchasing wedding insurance will also enable the wedding to go on at a later date should grandma not make it to the wedding.
Accidents happen. Cars collide, house fires happen, and even sports injuries to the bride and groom or any member of their family, can cause the bridal couple to postpone the wedding. Insurance will make moving the date a lot easier without causing a financial burden.
If you planned a destination wedding, you are not in control of any natural disasters. Floods, hurricanes, earthquakes, and volcanic ash can cause flights to be cancelled or delayed for weeks. Of course, these events acn happen locally, too.
If the bride or groom is in the active military and is deployed, wedding insurance covers this, too.
If one of your vendors does not show up, like the florist, the limousine service, the photographer or the DJ, purchasing wedding insurance will not get them to come, but it will enable you to get your deposit money back.
With the economy being what it is, catering halls do go out of business without it's patrons knowing until it is too late. If the venue goes belly up at the last minute, couples are forced to take whatever hall is available on their wedding date.
Even if something happens to your wedding gown or the groom's tuxedo, wedding insurance will take care of any damages.
Please note that wedding insurance does not cover cold feet and changes of heart. If a bride or groom decides not to go through with the wedding, the vendors still have to be paid.
How Much Does it Cost?
You need to ask your insurance agent, but policies for wedding insurance generally costs between $180-$500.
If you decide to purchase wedding insurance, you should get it at least twelve months before the wedding.
Do We Really Need to Purchase Wedding Insurance?
Before you decide to lay out the money and purchase wedding insurance, ask your catering hall, photographer, disc jockey, band and any other vendors if they are insured. Ask for copies for your records.
While purchasing wedding insurance does not guarantee that you will have a happily ever after, it can give brides and grooms peace of mind.
