Put Your Old Sweatshirt To Good Use - Recycle It!

By | Jul 10, 2010 | 2 Comments | Rating: 0

Do you own a bunch of sweatshirts that you have no further use for? Nowadays, wearing sweatshirts is all the rage and just about everybody has a whole bunch of them. Sweatshirts are immensely popular and people are buying them by the dozen. Some of these shirts are as low priced as ten bucks. That's absolutely nothing. We are living in an age of disposable products... disposable electronics, disposable clothing and so on. I'm willing to bet that you are thinking off simply tossing those sweatshirts out, aren't you? Well, there is something better you can do with your old shirts, so don't put them in the garbage just yet.

You can make a great looking quilt from your old sweatshirts! If you've got a whole bunch of old clothing you aren't going to wear anymore, then you can simply use the logos and images on those clothes for creating an awesome looking quilt that you can use for decorative purposes. This is how I recently used my boyfriend's old Russell Athletic Big Tall Crew Neck Sweater and his worn and torn Fruit Of The Loom Adult Best Poly Cotton Hoodie Pullover Sweater! It's always best if your sweatshirts have logos on them, so you can cut those out in an octagon shape. If you collect a whole lot of octagons, you can sew them together and make that quilt of yours.

Here's how to go about it. First you must create a cardboard cut out of an octagon. You do this by grabbing a ruler and using it to draw an octagon by following the ruler with your pencil. You'll be using this template over and over again, so it's kind of important that you measure it accurately to make sure you don't end up with a deformed octagon. Once you've drawn your octagon on a piece of cardboard, simply cut that thing out! Now that you have your cardboard octagon, fold an old sweatshirt around it so that the image or logo falls on the cardboard and then start cutting around it.

This is how you can create a whole bunch of octagonal patches that you can sew together and make yourself a quilt or a blanket or what have you. You can either hang the quilt up against the wall in your dorm room if you are still a school going student. Or you can use your quilt as a comfortable blanket to cover the couch if you're a parent who has children that love to make a mess. Or you can use it as a comfortable blanket for your dog or your cat if you are a proud pet owner that likes to take care of his or her animals. The possibilities are endless!
