By Edited Aug 27, 2016 0 0

Also, the need to visit the dentist again and again is reduced because multiple procedures may be done in just a single appointment with sedation dentistry.

Sedatives for qualified patients may be administered through oral route, intravenous route, intramuscular route, or nitrous oxide inhalation.

It is common knowledge that we can just trust the expertise of our sedation dentists when we want an option to have a dental procedure done. For example, California requires 25 hours, Nevada 60 hours, Texas 24 hours, and Washington 14 to 21 hours of instructive classroom training related to sedation dentistry methods, tools, and equipment.

He has proof of his training in his clinic.

The best way for any patient to ensure that he is paying for the services of a sedation dentist is if he has legitimate certificates placed on his wall at the clinic which prove his completion of additional training in sedation dentistry aide from his earlier training in general dentistry. You might also want to check if he has undergone continuing medical education courses direct from known experts in sedation dentistry, such as Dr. Morton Rosenberg and Dr. Kenneth Reed.

He has staff that have also undergone training in sedation dentistry.

An experienced sedation dentist acknowledges that he cannot perform sedation dentistry alone. He has a team with him, specifically including a registered nurse and anesthetist to administer the sedatives so that he can clearly focus on the dental procedure.

He presents to you the options in sedation dentistry.

An experienced sedation dentist is not hesitant to present to you the available options for the pharmacological agents to be administered to you in order to achieve a certain level of comfort and ease during the dental procedure. The first thing that dentists do upon consultation is to evaluate the medical history of the patient, such as the last time he has ever undergone a dental procedure or the maintenance drugs he is currently taking. Therefore, by this time he should also be willing to explain to you the available options (oral, IV, or nitrous oxide), state the advantages and disadvantages of each option, and arrive at the option that is best for you.
