Full Review

REN's Mayblossom Balancing Cleansing Gel is one of the many products from REN Skincare.

I'd already become a fan of the Moroccan Rose Otto Body Wash, and decided to sample some of their facial skincare range. My skin is oily but also quite sensitive, and so I needed something tough enough to cleanse the oil from my skin, but not to strip it.

The REN skincare range focuses on quality, natural ingredients, and while that means you don't get that 'intensely clean' feel, after use, my skin feels soft and smooth, and it never leaves my skin feeling dry or tight.

It's a light, gel formulation and it doesn't foam in the way that some washable cleansers do, but that doesn't mean its not working – it's just a sign that it doesn't contain some of the additives other products do, to create that artificial lather. One pump of gel is more than enough to cleanse a made-up face.

I'm prone to blemishes, and I'm happy to say that this has been the most effective product I've ever used when it comes to keeping them at bay.

Part-way through using the gel, I had a series of medium density skin peels, and the REN Mayblossm Balancing Cleansing Gel was gentle enough to use immediately afterwards, with no irritation.

The one issue with the REN cleanser was the packaging. It looks lovely, but there is always a little left over that is impossible to get out, without breaking open the lid and scooping it out.

In Closing

REN has won many awards, and is a beauty editors' favorite choice, and it's easy to see why. The company promotes 'clean, bioactive skincare', and its ingredients are free from synthetic fragrance and colors, petrochemicals, sulfate detergents and animal ingredients, making it suitable for vegetarians. The company also avoids using a number of potential irritants, making it a great choice for people with sensitive skin.

REN also donates some of its profits towards environmental awareness campaigns, and the packaging is recyclable, making the brand a great choice for people who care for the environment, as well as their skin.

Overall, this is my cleanser of choice. I use it alongside the REN Matte Balancing Fluid, and it really works well. I'd recommend REN Skincare to anyone.
