RPG Downloads

By | Nov 12, 2010 | 1 Comments | Rating: 0

There's only one genre of game that really manages to make my heart go thump-thump. No, it's not the adrenaline rush of a first-person shooter. It's not the slow, strategic thought process of an online card game. It's not even the Impossible Quiz (however delightful that game may be). It's the genre of RPG downloads: where you can become entangled in a world completely different from ours.

The Various Types of RPG Downloads
I was introduced to the genre of RPGs back when I was just a little tyke. While most kids were out being lived through vicariously by their parents at tee-ball games, I stayed inside and played Hyperman. Don't get me wrong: I spent plenty of time getting in trouble with my friends in the great outdoors, as well. Nonetheless, I developed a taste for the entertainment that could only be provided by an RPG.

The first variety of RPG downloads is the traditional adventure genre. In these kinds of RPGs, you usually play a sort of hero whose role it is to prevent a form of destruction from wreaking havoc on wherever you may find yourself. PC RPG games such as Sierra's King's Quest and Sirtech's Wizardry lines are perfect examples.

Similarly, you have point-and-click games. Point-and-click games, such as the legendary LucasArts game The Secret of Monkey Island and the aforementioned Hyperman, often integrate humor into the gaming experience, combining both mental challenges and plenty of hearty laughs. However, not all point-and-clicks are humorous. Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw's 5 Days a Stranger does an incredible job at bringing more horror into a simple point-and-click game than there is in many Hollywood blockbusters.

Some RPGs focus on physical action rather than traditional puzzles. Portal, the critically acclaimed video game by the Valve Corporation, is a prime example of the RPG puzzle-platformer genre. These games combine the heart-pounding action of many first-person shooters in an elegant fashion, all while maintaining the immersive RPG environment.

Where can I get RPG downloads?
Obtaining many of these classic games is now easy -- various RPG downloads and abandonware portals provide eager adventurers with a multitude of free and cheap games. If a RPG game download is newer, you still ought to be able to find it online. With DRM sales software like Steam, game content can be managed without having to buy CDs.

Try a new title out, and immerse yourself in the experience provided by RPG downloads! (Just make sure you get a sitter for the kids.)
