Radio Astronomy, a Different Way to discover the Stars

The majority of us equate astronomy with either somebody in their backyard with a moderate telescope or perchance at an observatory or planetarium looking at the nighttime sky. This is of course a role of the world of astronomy of course, a tremendously popular function to be sure. So to the uninitiated, the idea of radio astronomy looks strange. There are two reasons for that. First is that humanity are far more numerous optical than audio frequency bound. And the second is that radio astronomy doesn't really involve listening to the macrocosm except to the extent that scientists who employ this high-tech form of stargazing do not trust on ocular examination to conduct their function.


In order to picture the invigorating domain of radio astronomy, we must first skew our individual consider of astronomy or rather orthodox astronomy The frequencies of stars and different interstellar natural structures, such as satellites, comets and even quasars are more than important to the furthering of the science of astronomy than the ocular or graphic representations that come to us from telescopes.


Light is the first link to our ocular stimuli as detected by our eyeballs, and in as far as we are babbling about how we can examine the stars depends on light. In traditional astronomy, where we exercise a telescope with lenses and/or mirrors, we exercise this light that is being emitted from stars, or reflected by other planets or moons to consider the universe as we can with our individual eyeballs. That entirely is a pretty mind blowing idea.


Now light itself is a pretty strange substance. But to our astronomy scientists, light is simply another energy that exists in a positive absolute frequency. Now, we tend to imagine of frequencies when we utter about sound waves. To the radio astronomers, and other scientists, the classes of energy that we recognize as light and sound hold their personal relative frequencies, and all relative frequencies have a single source.



Now we get to why radio astronomy is so needed. Light simply occupies a relatively limited role of the frequency sets, so it is easier to set apart and read by our existing and future technologies. That being said, this also means that we can just examine a very smaller percentage of the universe out there because of the smaller amount of relative frequencies that light can relay to our eyes. Not to further blow your mind, when you look up into the night sky, and examine all those innumerable stars out there, ok and many planets, your just seeing an incredibly moderate portion of the universe that in reality exists. Terrific idea isn't it?


To further ingrain on you the importance of radio astronomy, let us explain to you that radio scopes are comprised of many very refined technology that can read the ENTIRE frequency spectrum of all energy that makes up the universe. Now if you imagine about that, and how large that really is, the scientists involved are now able to track any celestial body out there and plot it's likely and behaviors for others to analyze in more than depth; without this, we would know only a smaller percentage of what is going on in our macrocosm as a .



Movie buffs out there should now realize that the book by Carl Sagan that became a hit movie, titles Contact, is not the end all be all of radio astronomy (even though Helen Hunt is grand!). SETI, the Search for Extra Terrestial Intelligence, is a prominent role of the radio astronomy subject of analyze, albeit a smaller one though. The greater goal of radio astonomy is the search for those items we are unable to view with our visually based astronomers tools. Items like black holes, so referred because they radiate no light whatsoever, and even the background radiation or interference from the very beginings of our cosmos are being studied, now how is that for studying roughly the nature of our universe with radio astronomy.
