Range Hoods in The Kitchen

By | 0 Comments | Rating: 0 | |

The reason we need to have range hoods in the kitchen is to remove pollutants from the air. They are also used to eliminate cooking odors. The kitchen range hood sucks these cooking odors and hot air outside. It will also keep grease contained, which just makes for a happier cook.

There are lots of bells and whistles to choose from when purchasing a kitchen hood. The style and materials vary in color and variety, as well as what type of ducting system, lights, and timers, you want to include. They can be made out of a many materials including copper, stainless steel and wood and can be mounted on a wall or above a kitchen island.

Knowing what kind of ventilation system you now have in your kitchen will make choosing a new kitchen range hood a lot easier. You also need to know where you are putting the range hood, the measurements, and style you are looking for. There are two types of fans to choose from, one is a basic fan that pushes the air to the ceiling, or the charcoal filtration system which is more costly.

You can choose a range hood that is venting or recirculating, these are the most popular options. It is harder to install the venting system, due to the fact, you need a way to get to an exhaust duct. An electrical outlet is all that a non-venting hood needs to work. The recirculation hood is the less expensive and useful of the two, unfortunately, sometimes you get what you pay for.

Some range hoods are considered more designer in nature, such as the slimline hood, it is hidden under the cabinets and only seen when used. You can also install a unit under your microwave shelf, this works out very nicely.

Updraft and downdraft systems are found in different types of kitchen hood ranges. With the updraft system, the air goes through a filter then in the duct work to the outside. When you use the downdraft system, the fans are installed by the burners, and they pull the air into the duct work.

If you are creating your own ventilation system you should pick the ventilator unit first off, make sure it is as wide as the range top so that it sucks up the air from the cooking area efficiently. You need enough room in the hood and the surrounding walls or cupboards for the duct work and ventilator to fit properly.

All that you should use to clean your new hood is soap and water. The kitchen range hoods do need to be cleaned often, because of all the smoke and grease that is pulled into them and to keep them working efficiently. Stay away from using anything abrasive to clean with. If you are dealing with a lot of build up, try using ammonia and water, this should help cut through the grease. There are some metal mesh filters that can be easily put into a cleaning solution, washed, dried, and put back into the range hood.
