Rava Idli and Peas Pulav Popular Indian Dishes

Rava Idli is famous south Indian breakfast dish. This is just another variation of the very common Idli popular all over Indian with origins from southern India. Rava idly is especially originated from Karnataka. Rava Idli means idli made from semolina instead of rice. Rava idli was introduced by a popular restaurant chain, Mavalli Tiffin Rooms in Bangalore. In fact this semolina idli was prepared at the time of shortage of Idli rice during World War II. It can be also eaten as quick lunch. This dish is available in restaurants having Udupi cuisine. The taste of Rava idli topped with ghee and eaten along with sambar and coconut chutney is fantastic. Rava idli recipe takes 45 minutes for preparation. This dish is healthy. Now, ready made rava idly packets are available in the stores.

Ingredients to make Rava Idli
Fine Rava(Sooji)- 2 cups
Green chilies- 5 tbsps
curd (sour)- 2 cups
chopped onions- 1/2 cup
Oil- 5 tbsps
Ghee- 5 tbsps
Chopped coriander leaves- 1/2 cup
Curry leaves- 1/2 cup
Salt- 1 tbsp
cooking soda- 1/2 tbsp

Procedure to cook Rava Idli
Pour the curd into a pan and then add the roasted Rava into it. Mix it well till no lumps remain. Fry chopped onions and curry leaves for few minutes till light brown. Pour curd, Rava mixture, salt chopped chillies, coriander leaves and soda. Mix well and immediately pour into greased Idli plates and steam for 10 minutes or till it is cooked.

This is an easy preparation. Rava idli is eaten well with sambhar and coconut chutney. It adds a great flavour if topped with ghee.

Peas Pulav
Peas Pulav is popular Indian rice dish and is favourite dish among the children. It fills the stomach and kids love it when packed for lunch. Peas pulav can classified as main course. This can be quickly prepared and can be accompanied well with any gravy like dal fry, raita. Peas pulav is an ideal food of home and served in any wedding occasion. Peas pulav recipe takes 30 minutes for preparation. This easy to make dish is good for health.

Ingredients to make Peas Pulav
Basmati rice- 2 cups
medium onion( sliced)- 1
green slit chilies- 3to 4
cloves- 3 to 4
cinnamon- 2 sticks
black cardamom- 1
green cardamom- 2
ginger garlic paste- 1tsp
green peas- 1/2 cup
coconut milk- 1 cup
salt to taste

Procedure to cook Peas Pulav
The rice is washed and kept aside. The oil is heated in a vessel and to these cloves, cinnamon, green and black cardamom, green chilies, ginger garlic paste and stir well adding onions till it turns light brown. Then to this green pees are added. The rice is added and mixed well on the heat till masala and the rice is mixed well. Once it is mixed well you need to add 3 cups of water, coconut milk and salt enough for the rice to cook. The pulav is ready once the rice is cooked.

It can be garnished with slit green chilies, diced or sliced tomatoes and mint leaf. It can be served with any type of raitha. Kids love it and it can be cooked quickly and packed for their lunch
