Really Free Credit Report
If you have been looking for a really free credit report then you should be happy to hear that the ever since the inception of the Fair Credit Reporting Act of 2005 the government has made it so that virtually anyone over the age of eighteen can gain access to their credit report for free and without concession at least once a year. It's sad that the majority of the population does not take advantage of this new law because by checking your credit report you can give yourself a better chance at knowing where you stand in terms of your overall credit and this can allow you to qualify for some of the best interest rates when you are ready to take out a loan for something.
Even though the majority of the population still doesn't take advantage of this entitlement, a good proportion of citizens across this country do, and for those people an important distinction must be made so that they can ultimately gain access to what is a really free credit report. When I say really free credit report I am trying to differentiate between some of the more authentic free credit report offers that are out there, and some of the so-called "pseudo" free credit report offers that may promise a free credit report but fail to deliver on such guarantees. A really free credit report should be just thatâcompletely free of charge, and while some companies do provide reports that don't require a payment of any kind, there have been a number of companies that have popped up over the past few years that have been subtly charging the people who come to them asking for a free report for other products that are related to their credit situation.
These companies will ask for credit card information and may even try to upsell you on such services as credit monitoring and while these products can be good they are not what the person was originally looking for. Some of these places make it so that you must either provide your credit card information or buy one of their additional products before you can access your credit report, and while this is fine from one perspective the government did not enact the Fair Credit Reporting Act so that people would have to indirectly pay for their credit reports. If you want to avoid such upsells and run-around you can simply go to AnnualCreditReport.com and gain access to your really free credit reports without much hassle at all. This site is fully endorsed by the government and it provides the kind of service that the Fair Credit Reporting Act was setup for. The only problem with this website is that it does not provide you with your credit scores along with your credit reports as the law that the government put into place does not mandate that all citizens must be able to access their credit scores as well as their credit reports at the same time. If you want to see your scores then you are going have to most likely follow-up with one of the companies that will charge you for such a service, and depending on what your end goals are this may or may not be what you want.
