Another option is to use a rectangular meditation cushion with or without a Zabuton. The advantage of the rectangular cushion is that it’s not as high as the Zafu, so it might be more comfortable for average height or little people. Usually, the people who choose rectangular meditation cushions are the advanced meditators.
For kneeling posture most of the tension will concentrate in the knees and ankles. The most suited to support this posture are the Zabuton or a rectangular meditation cushion, but a zafu could do also a good job.
When practicing the sitting meditation posture, you can use a normal chair and just add a sitting cushion or a Zabuton. They will protect your lower back.
