Red Wine Goblets
A sip of red wine can send a warm feeling throughout your body and put one at ease without a care in the world. There is an incredible variety of red wines made today. However, the type of wine goblet used to enjoy those wines is often overlooked. Having the right wine goblets to drink your wine is a topic that deserves more importance.
To fully enjoy a red wine, you must use a wine goblet that complements it correctly. Red wine goblets tend to have wide, broad bowls with a narrow mouth. This is because they need to aerate properly. Aerating the wine requires it to be exposed to the air and warm up a little in the process. Doing this will slightly enhance the flavor. More importantly, it will allow the lovely aromas to escape the wine and collect inside the goblet.
By using a larger wine goblet, aeration is easy. However, you can quicken the process by swirling it around before you take a sip. Again, having a large wine goblet will make this easy, as you will have more room to swish it about.
The strength of the wine should also determine what type of wine goblet you decide to drink from. There are light bodied red wines such as White Zinfandel and Pinot Noir that have are easy on the palate and have a little aroma. It is best to use a wine goblet with a wider bowl that tapers into a more narrow mouth. This is because the aromas are not as strong and the more room in the goblet allows more aromas to collect in it. They may also be tulip shaped to force the wine to the tip of your tongue when you sip.
Full bodied red wines, such as Bordeaux, need a goblet that also has a wide bowl, but not as narrow a mouth. They are also generally taller. This also allows the strong aromas to collect, but the shape of it forces the wine to the back of your tongue.
There are many places to shop for red wine goblets. You can find goblet sets anywhere that flatware or stemware is sold, such as department stores. You can find more elegant designs at antique shops, specialty stores and possibly even jewelry stores. Probably the best place to shop is online, where you will find many unique wine goblets that are sold only through online stores, including wooden and pottery wine goblets.
