Reduce Knee Pain with Weight Loss Surgery

By | 1 Comments | Rating: 0 | |

Back in July 0f 2003 I had gastric bypass weight loss surgery due to having heart problems and knee pain. The added extra load on my body was causing my health to deteriorate at an alarming rate. Heart problems, high blood pressure, knee pain in both knees from torn meniscus and macro degeneration of my vision. Yep slap an eye patch on me back then and you could have called me "Lucky" (to be a alive).

The first thing I noticed after losing around one hundred pounds post surgery was my knees did not hurt as much - I still have to have knee surgery to fix the damage my extreme morbid obesity caused, but the lighter you are the less pain you will have with joint and bone problems.

As we get older it's harder to keep weight off and of course our bodies are worse from the normal everyday wear and tear. I was told that I had about an 16-18 month window to get all the weight I could before my body would figure out how to store fat again. So as the doctor ordered I started power walking and sticking to his post operative weight loss diet. The first week I lost over 30 lbs - then it was about 10 pounds a week for the next six months - then the normal 3-4 pounds a week until the honeymoon period was over (that is what they call the first year and a half after weight loss surgery).

My heart and my vision have been restored to more normal levels of health as well. If you can take off the weight without gastric by surgery please by all means do so. But, if you have tried and failed many times like I and my wife did - then weight loss surgery can turn your life around very quickly and help you become a healthier and longer living person.
