Remember, dogs aren't like humans
When you are training a dog the first thing that you will probably have to realise if you are to be successful is that the dog doesn't think like a human. Because of this you shouldn't treat it like a human and shouldn't expect to react like human either. This article will give you an overview of some of the common mistake that many people make when they are trying to train a dog.
First of all you should not think that shouting "no" at a dog is going to make it do what you want. In many cases the dog will just think you are trying to interact with it and that what it's doing is correct. Dogs crave attention and if you give the dog attention when it is doing something wrong it is likely to continue because it knows that it can get what it wants. The same goes when you shout at the dog because you think it is doing something wrong. It is much more likely that the dog will think that it is getting attention and carry on rather than showing that is doing something wrong.
Another mistake that a lot of people unfortunately make is
using physical punishment whenever the dog is doing something they don't like.
This will only confuse the dog and make it feel that it is unsafe in its own
home. When a dog is unsettled it will be much harder to train. For this reason
and the fact that you are likely to damage your relationship with your dog if
you physically harm it is why you should only use positive dog training. Also make sure you don't use your dog kennel and run as a punishment.
Training a dog doesn't have to be difficult as long as you follow a few simple rules. Remember that when you first get your dog as a puppy it is just the same as when you have a newborn human baby. It won't be able to understand much of what you tell it and it will not be able to concentrate a long period of time so you shouldn't spend too long training it in one go.
As your dog gets older you can expect it to be able to perform more advanced commands but until then you should focus on the basic things such as making sure the dog is housetrained and that it is able to understand commands such as sit and stay which are the most important commands.
