For someone who has had false nails for a long time there will come a time when you want to take them off. After some time your natural nails start to grow too long and start to show from the part near the cuticle and it will be easily seen that you have fake nails.

The project of taking off the false nails is actually easy and you need little more than a bowl and some acetone. But to make it as protective as possible for your skin and cuticles I would have to suggest you to go to a professional nail salon to get the project done. If you intend to do it by yourself anyway then here are a few things to keep in mind.

  1. You should always remember that your cuticle and hand overall health is very important for your nails to look good. When removing artificial nails you should firts rub a lot of vaseline everywhere your cuticles and fingertips to protect from the acetone.
  2. Find a bowl that will easily fit your hands and is steady enough so that you won't accidentally flip it and have all the chemicals spread around the table. The bowl also has to be made of glass or metal, since acetone can solve some of the plastics and ruin the bowl.
  3. Pour the acetone in the bowl and soak your nails in it for ten minutes. The acrylic nails will start to melt off and after ten minutes you can use a wooden stick like a tooth pick to scrape off the molten fake nails. Rinse and repeat until you are down to your nails. Don't go too deep since you might start to remove your natural nails.
  4. After taking off the fake nails you should cosider manicure nails and take good care of your cuticles since the stress that the acetone and this whole process has caused might cause damage to your nails and fingers. Doing a good manicure right after removing your false nails will help your hands to recover from this.
Rememver to schedule enough time for all this since you can't be hurrying with this. You will need to take off a lot of layers of nails and do the manicure right after for optimal results.
