One of the most important things to keep in mind when making a decision is the location! Do you want to live in a thriving touristy town, or do you want to live in a more modest, quiet one? Which lake do you want to live on, as they all have their own unique qualities. Lake Como and Lake Garda are both quite touristy. Lake Maggiore is also up there, but not as bad. It’s a good combination of lots to do because it is a popular tourist spot, but also the quietest of the three. The rest of the lakes are much more quaint with much smaller towns.
