Tips to Stand Out From The Crowd

When a compnay puts ads to hire on line or with recruiters they expect plenty of mail.  How do you wnat to stand out from the others?  Ever think what it's like to be in the choosing position?

1. Show the Company that you are a profit center and can boost productivity.  Mention in your resume the work you have done to shop for bargains for your last company; negotiated supplies and saved a certain number of dollars, time saved or percentage.  Even if you are a busboy there are ways to describe how you boosted percentges.  For instance, saved 25% on purchasing clothing from one supplier by finding another with the same brand.

2. Online Forms.  Computer Recruiters or Employers using forms online are seeking target words that match what they are looking for.  Go through the High Traffice Job Search Engines such as Monster, Indeed, or Career Build, LinkedIn and check out the terms others are using.

3. Experiment how you resume looks online.  Send your resume to a friend's Blackberry and see how it looks. Do not go overboard with Italics, bold, photos, etc.

4. Be Creative.  Use a different color paper and envelope, or heavy paper.  Remember how some women use pink stationery to get attention into certain schools?

5.  You only have one chance of a first impression. Keep it to the point. Concise. Clean.  Double Check spelling.

6.  Skip References upon request.  Skip listing all your hobbies.  List one special thing about yourself to break the ice. If you are seeking a sales job and list that you run races; this might spark that you are competitive.
