Recently I purchased the Revlon Doubletwist mascara and I feel compelled to write a review about it. I usually look for makeup reviews before purchasing anything new, but I bought this on an impulse while grocery shopping. Unfortunately, I regret my purchase.
While I was browsing the mascara section, the one thing that stood out is the brush, and actually it is the reason I purchased it. It is called doubletwist because the brush has a spiral 3D effect. It sounds good until you try it. It's not hard to use but in order to get the mascara on properly you have to twirl the brush while brushing your eyelashes. This took a couple of tries before I figured it out.
Not that the applicator helped at all. The mascara applies extremely thick and clumpy. No matter how many different ways I tried to use the brush, the mascara always applied the same. I was blessed with long lashes so I don't need much in regards to length, but I don't have very many of them so I need a mascara that will give me some volume and depth. I was looking forward to experiencing a different mascara wand that would help me accomplish this. The Revlon Doubletwist is not the one. Every time I have applied it, I needed to comb out my eyelashes at least twice to get the clumps out.
Which leads me to my next complaint…the fallout! As thick and clumpy as this mascara is, it dried up during the day and fell all over my face. By the time I checked myself in the mirror after lunchtime I had little black flecks all over my cheeks. They weren't easy to take off either. I had to use some elbow grease to get it off, which in turn made me have to reapply my foundation again, as my skin looked red and irritated from wiping the mascara from my cheeks and the corners of my eyes.
My final complaint about the Revlon Doubletwist mascara is the difficulty in removing it at the end of the day. It took several tries to remove it with eye makeup remover. I usually remove my makeup before taking a shower, and even after showering I had the dreaded raccoon eyes; you know, the eyes that have black eyeliner and mascara smudged underneath. It only completely came off after applying my favorite Olay moisturizer.
I wish I had something positive to say about this product, but I don't. I have been duped by cute packaging before, and I can't even say the mascara container is cute. It's just a boring red-orange color. Plus it cost $9, expensive for a drugstore brand that I won't use again and have to throw out. It would have taken just as much time and probably would have been easier to apply false eyelashes! I'm disappointed in Revlon, as I have used their products before and have not had a problem.
Lesson learned…I won't make impulse decisions about makeup again! I will continue to do my research first before purchasing.
