Most people have heard about the rhinoplasty procedure or nose surgery, but do not know how the procedure is really done in the operating room. Before the surgery, the doctor usually briefs you on what will happen. Anesthesia will be administered depending on the duration and complexity of the surgery. Anesthesia is administered to the nose via a gas mask before incisions are made. This is done to numb the body, including the cartilage and facial bones, so that the patient will not feel anything during the said procedure.
The rhinoplasty procedure can be done with either of two basic methods. This depends on the decision of the surgeon or with the type of work required. Internal rhinoplasty is a method where the incisions made are only on the inside of the nose. There are no incisions on the outside of the nose. This method requires more skill and artistry in order to get the best results. It is only done if the work can be reached from the interior of the nose.
External rhinoplasty on the other hand is the opposite of the first method. As the name implies, the surgeon performs the incisions outside of the nose. This is usually done when the surgery requires more extensive removal or if lots of work needs to be done to the cartilage tissue. Any of these two methods can be performed administrating a local or a general anesthesia. The procedure usually takes two to four hours depending on the complexity of the rhinoplasty procedure.
Whatever type of incision is used in the rhinoplasty procedure, the skin and nose cartilage will always be exposed. That way, the surgeon can do the sculpting process in reshaping or improving your nose. Rhinoplasty is really considered an art rather than a surgery. It is because the surgeon is like an artist and studies the photographs of the patients and makes notes on what to be done during the procedure. It is the surgeon's job to carefully check and analyze the symmetry of the nose ensuring that any changes that are made will produce the desired result that the patient wants to achieve.
This is important because even small miscalculations could make a large difference once the swelling goes away. So, an expert surgeon with lot of experience is required to do the job. After the rhinoplasty procedure, the surgeon will need to carefully check if blood vessels in the area are affected. The nostril openings will also be measured to see if they match the notes and the measurements made before the procedure started. When everything matches up, the process of closing up the nose will begin.
In closing the incisions made during the process, small sutures are used whether the internal or external procedure is performed. Lastly, a tiny protective splint will be placed around the nose. After a day or two on your post surgery visit, the surgeon will now remove the tiny splint and you will then have a look at your new nose. You will more than likely experience some swelling and a considerable amount of pain, but this will go away in a couple of days. The surgeon will also want to prescribe you some antibiotics to avoid infection.
It is important that you choose an expert surgeon with lots of experience in doing rhinoplasty procedure. Their skills may be specialized in African American nose jobs or the Asian nose job. You would not want to do the procedure with a surgeon that isn't specialized in the procedure you are interested in. Doing some background research on the surgeon or asking relatives and friends for a trustworthy doctor is a good idea. If you want some quick results on your nose you can get a 15 minute nose job. This is one of the procedures they do in Arizona. Plastic surgery also includes injectables and that is what occurs in the 15 minute job.
Going forward with rhinoplasty is a big decision and should not be taken lightly. The nose is very fragile and can only withstand so much manipulation before it weakens greatly. Michael Jackson serves as a good reminder of what plastic surgery addiction can do to a person who has unlimited money. Be sure to ask yourself why you are contemplating the procedure. It this one slight adjustment going to make all the difference in the world? While that can be easy to answer before the surgery, it is often harder to answer a year down the road. Distinctive facial features are defining. Should we all look the same? Probably not. Self-esteem is easier to build than a new face. While vanity surgeries are commonplace in our society today is anybody asking if they should be? That is a question that every person who is considering cosmetic surgery needs to answer for themselves.
