Philanthropists Who Give Money Away

"If you can't feed a hundred people, then just feed one" - Mother Teresa.

Scarcities of food, absolute poverty, lack of education, aggressive recession, increasing number of homeless families are only some of the issues the world is encountering. Wealthy people become richer and the under privileged people become poorer. Fortunately, affluent people find a way to help the less fortunate. Yes, there are still people who share their abundant blessings from the Lord to others. These people offer help to the empty-handed in various ways. Building foundation of different purpose, being a missionary, investing on new industries for new jobs, donating food, clothes, books or toys directly are just some.

List of Philanthropists Who Give Money Away To Poverty Charity Organizations

Here is a list of a number of wealthy people who have the heart to extend their resources to our brothers and sisters who are in need. (In no particular order)

Warren Buffet, 81-year-old CEO of Berkshire Hathaway Incorporated, is now the second richest man in the world, reaching almost $40 billion as his net worth. He founded Giving Pledge last 2006 together with Bill Gates and made it public on the year 2010. A foundation pushes millionaires and billionaires all over the world to pledge to generosity. Michael Bloomberg, Paul Allen, Mark Zuckerberg and many more are supporting this foundation.

Moreover, Warren Buffett, with all humility, does not settle with only that. He still supports foundations like Animal Rescue Foundation, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Make a Wish Foundation and still counting. Talking about helping, there is no doubt that Mr. Buffett is an angel to many.

Oprah Winfrey, one of the most influential and prominent woman in the world, is indeed a big blessing. Offering quality education was one of her biggest passion in life. Numerous schools were built around the entire world and mostly in Africa through her foundation Oprah’s Angel Network. She created The Oprah Winfrey Foundation and The Oprah Winfrey Operating Foundation. She made projects possible like Building Oprah Katrina Homes for the victims of the devastating hurricane, The Leadership Academy that is located in South Africa, and O Ambassador.

Ms. Winfrey gives time and effort to other foundations too like Red Cross, Peace over Violence, Free the Children, Clinton Foundation, and Women and Women Foundation. She supports causes like AIDS, poverty, hunger, and health. She is using her influential power to help the bitter to be better.

Angelina Jolie, one of the highest paid actor with a very beautiful face, founded Maddox Jolie-Pitt Foundation alongside with her husband, Brad Pitt on 2006. Its main mission is to eliminate poverty and protect our natural resources. The projects they have focus on community developments, educating people on relying and maximizing with the resources that are in their possession. Some of the projects they have are Grower Chicken Project, Community School Outreach, and Emergency Food Assistance.

Angelina Jolie, in addition, is committed to charities and foundations namely ONE Campaign, UNICEF, that the focal point is on every right of children, Millennium Villages, and UNHCR. She is definitely considered as a superhero of modern times.

Bill Gates, richest man in the world and architect of Microsoft, is without a doubt a generous giver to the poor. Mr. Gates created Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Melinda who is her wife, in 1999. Guided by the 15 principles and the number one principle is that:  “It is driven by the interests and passion of the Gates family.”

The foundation tenders services for Global Development and Health Program. It has projects like Agriculture Development that help farmers increase what they earn, Scholarships for high school students, community libraries and computers with free access to internet and many more.

Bill Gates does not end there; he still supports charities with the same advocacy. Some of which are Food Bank for New York City, The Lunchbox Fund, and the charity of his good friend Warren Buffett that is Giving Pledge. With this, he is absolutely a genius in maximizing what he has.

John Bryant, a person who experienced poverty first hand and now a global leader, founded Operation Hope ten years ago. The foundation’s mission is to make available enough resources to less fortunate individuals and families. Operation Hope wanted to give more opportunities to become better to the underprivileged.

The projects under his foundation are Global Dignity that builds classrooms for children, HOPE Coalition America that aids people who are victims of natural disasters and a lot more. He also helped by Andrew Young, a civil rights ambassador, Congresswoman Sheila Lee and many more.

Mr. Bryant is a good example of one of those who knows how to give back because he knows how it feels to be lacking.

Oscar De La Hoya, also known as The Golden Boy in boxing, started Oscar De La Hoya Foundation in 1995. Its purpose is to bring youth with not enough financial resources to school. The foundation let the children feel Christmas last year by giving away gifts. He also hosts golf tournaments for the benefit of less fortunate people for almost a decade now.

Mr. De La Hoya gives donations to advocacies that give education or builds classroom in Los Angeles. Quality education is his primary approach of giving a hand to the deprived. He is not only tough inside the ring but also tougher in wanting a better future for everyone.

If we were to combine all the foundations, projects, causes by wealthy people listed above, it all boils down to one purpose - to eliminate all possible causes of suffering. Different ways, different advocacies, different causes, different grounds, but only one objective. These people continue to bring hope to the heart of the hopeless. They started a spark, which is now beginning to ignite and becoming a fire of burning passion in helping others. Yet, we do not have to be rich to be able to help the poor, just like what Mother Teresa said, we can start small, we can start by helping an individual. Great things at all times start small. Never be afraid to take the first step.
