Rocking Out With Emo Makeup
Aside from putting in some layers to get that emo hair, emo makeup is a must for achieving that emo look. A good combination of emo hair and makeup will surely amaze all the emo kids. In the world of emo, both girls and boys wear makeup. Both genders use eyeliners to give high emphasis to the eyes and show a moody style. Before starting the makeup session, prepare all the things that will be needed like a black mascara, black eyeliner, colored eyeliner, dark neon eye shadow, face powder, liquid foundation, mirror, base, primer, lipstick and lip gloss.
For emo makeup for girls, cover the whole face with a concealer, powder or a liquid foundation using a clean sponge. You want just enough to make the face pale. Apply an eye shadow to the eyelids using a thin brush. Use different colors but for the best emo look, uses dark shadows and neon colors. On the bottom of your lashes, put eyeliner to a position closest to the lash line if possible. Apply the liner continuously from both directions for a result that looks smooth. Do not use liquid liner for the water line, just use a pencil one as the liquid will spread all over the eyes when blinking which will make the eyes messy. Keep on applying over the line until the desired thickness is achieved. To make a strong and solid black impression, it usually takes 4 layers.
For a more sophisticated emo makeup look, add a colored liner. Apply the liner again on the upper lashes to make it look smooth moving the brush from top to bottom. The end of the eyeliner should meet the eye's corners. The line should slant upwards going to the temples. It should create a cat like look. Put black mascara on the upper lashes. Be careful in applying and avoid smudging the eyelids. There are some that apply mascara on the lower lashes but a moody effect can be achieved with fake lashes. Never use gothic colored heavy lipstick. The focus should be on the eyes and not to the lips. A colorless or pale gloss is already enough for the lips. Smudging the eyeliner at the bottom will create a smoky effect, which is great emo make up.
For emo makeup for the boys, apply a concealer of foundation all over the face, but just enough to cover some spots. Do not make it too obvious. On the lash line, apply an eyeliner close enough to the eye lashes to create a smooth look. Make the liner look thicker by adding more strokes until the desired thickness is achieved. Applying an eye shadow is optional for boys but for those who want to add a little drama to the eyes use only a light amount and avoid neon shades. Use a charcoal shadow instead and put in a little bit underneath the eyes. Mascara application is an option but if chosen, use black instead of brown.
Practice makes perfect in emo makeup. To achieve the best emo makeup, try applying it at home to make the hand feel at ease and steady. Look for a resting place for the hand, usually a flat surface, to keep it steady to get smooth lines. Do not apply makeup in a dark place or else it will just come out wrong. To make the effect smoky if you are having trouble in making the lines thicker, use a black shadow in little amounts only. Never apply a very light foundation to match the skin; what we want to get here is an emo look, not a zombie look. For those who have oily skin and whose skin sweats easily, apply a primer below the eye colors to keep it from running, always bring face makeup for a retouch.
Keep the emo look simple by not over doing it. Parents may not be very happy seeing their kid having this look and might think that their kid is into drugs. Just do it gradually until the people around you get use to it. You don't want anyone to think emo screamo. Remember that the makeup is only part of this scene and you don't want people to think you are a poser or a faker. Make sure that you got the fashion part of it nailed down as well and don't forget the birth of this whole scene is the music, emo. Make friends with some emo kids before you go all out emo style as that might be a little abrupt and you could face social rejection. When you get really hardcore you can get some of the popular emo tattoos such as stars, paw prints and the heartagram. A truly thoughtful one is the scripture tattoo. This can be the verse of a song or part of your favorite poem or book. Just make sure that your tattoo artist can spell. There is quite a lot to this scene, but if you can master the emo makeup then you'll fit right in.
