Wine Country

Home to over 300 wineries, Napa Valley has become regarded as one of the finest destinations for oenophiles and novices alike. Couples can drive to various wineries of their choosing for tours and tastings, many of which are free or offered at a low cost. Tours vary in style, but couples can find experiences ranging from an exploration of Schramsberg’s champagne-filled caves to a cable car ride up to Sterling Vineyard’s entrance. Aside from wines to suit any taste, Napa Valley also boasts award-winning restaurants that alone offer enough incentive to make the drive from the city. Couples can also plan to explore wineries in nearby Sonoma County. Each visit to wine country is sure to lead to a deeper appreciation for various wines as well as for Northern California’s unbeatable lush scenery.

Horseback Riding

Half Moon Bay offers horseback riding adventures against a backdrop of the ocean and surrounding forests and hills. Sea Horse Ranch and Friendly Acres Horse Ranches offer couples over seven miles of trails through various terrains, including views of the famous California coastline. After a day of riding, couples can choose to picnic at tables near the trails, or even set up a blanket on the beach to relax and enjoy the sounds of the waves. Downtown Half Moon Bay also offers many restaurant options, ranging from casual to fine dining, to match the tastes of all couples.

Santa Cruz Beaches

For couples looking for a warmer day trip destination, Santa Cruz, with its wide offering of pristine beaches, is a top choice to consider. With some of the warmest beaches within a two-hour drive from the city, Santa Cruz has offerings for sun worshippers, swimmers, and boardwalk strollers during the daytime. For a quieter ambience, couples can walk along West Cliff Drive, which has a 3-mile long sidewalk facing the ocean. Pacific Avenue downtown offers shops and restaurants. For added romance, couples can choose to stay warm over a bonfire during sunset and at night.
