A Rose By Any Other Name...
Predominantly produced in Chile, Rosa Mosqueta Oil (marketed as Rosehip Seed Oil or Rose Hip Seed Oil in English) is a natural extract from the seeds of the Rosehip bush - a variety of wild rose native to the Andes Mountain region of South America - that has rapidly gained attention for its natural anti-aging properties. This potent essential oil is amber in color with a slightly nutty scent. Applied topically to the skin, it is quickly and easily absorbed, with no greasy after feel. This product is an excellent option for those with sensitive skin, those that prefer to use natural skin care products or those seeking to avoid exposure to the harmful, carcinogenic (cancer-causing) chemical ingredients prevalent in cosmetics and other personal care products.
A Nutrient-Rich Panacea for the Skin
A natural and homeopathic remedy, Rosa Mosqueta Oil has a long history of preventative and curative use; it was used by ancient civilizations including the Mayans and Egyptians. Only recently has it gained scientific recognition and popularity among consumers. It is safe and recommended for all skin types, including sensitive skin. Here is a summary of the oil's many benefits and uses:
- Balances skin tone: corrects hyperpigmentation, brown spots and sun spots
- Soothes burns (including sunburns) and may prevent UV damage
- Helps prevent and fade existing scars and stretch marks
- Alleviates dry skin concerns including psoriasis, eczema, and itching
- Reduces fine lines and wrinkles
- Can be applied to the head to moisturize hair and scalp
- Can be applied to hands to prevent and heal chapped, cracked hands or brittle nails
- Prevents inflammation and can reduce the signs of acne
- Boosts collagen production and skin elasticity for firmer skin
What is it That Makes it So Unique?
Antioxidants (i.e. vitamins, minerals, and enzymes that can prevent or repair damage to your body's tissue) play a key role in preventing premature aging. Rosa Mosqueta Oil is loaded with them! Antioxidants are scientifically recognized for their ability to prevent free radical damage: damage that occurs in everyday life due to exposure to environmental toxins. It is especially high in vitamins A and E, which encourage new skin cell production, reduce fine lines and wrinkles, and promote firmer skin tone for an overall more youthful appearance. Rosa Mosqueta Oil is also high in omega-3 essential fatty acids (EFAs), which are difficult to get through diet alone (an estimated 85% of people in the western world are deficient.) Omega-3 EFAs are especially important as they can slow two aspects of the aging process: 1) extrinsic aging (damage caused by UV exposure, aka sun damage) and 2) intrinsic aging (chronological aging, or the breakdown of cell tissue that occurs naturally as one gets older.)
Ready to Give it a Try?
Here are some tips on how to incorporate Rosa Mosqueta Oil, a concern-free, natural remedy into your skin care routine. Simply apply 2-3 drops to freshly washed skin and blend in with your fingertips. This natural anti-aging ritual can be repeated daily. If you have particularly dry skin, I would recommend that you follow up your application with your preferred moisturizer. The skin feels notably supple and hydrated after only one use!
What a Bargain!
Rosa Mosqueta Oil is not only versatile and easy to use, but very economical - it doesn't carry the hefty price tag usually associated with the "anti-aging" label. It's worth the extra dollar or two for the organic version (still inexpensive at USD $10-20 a bottle.) After all, the skin is the body's largest organ; everything we put on our skin gets absorbed right into our bodies. You should be able to find it in stock at your local natural foods store or purchase it online from retailers such as Amazon and Vitamin Shoppe.
But buyer beware. Since beauty magazine headlines have recognized Rosa Mosqueta Oil, aka Rose Hip Seed Oil, as a natural anti-aging solution, the number of specialty products containing Rose Hip Seed Oil has increased and - as expected - so have the costs of Rose Hip Seed Oil products. (An extreme example: Victoria's Secret model Miranda Kerr now offers her own line of products entitled KORA Organics, among which is a "Luxurious Rosehip Oil" priced at $49 for .51 ounces.) Keep in mind that many of these products only contain a small amount of real Rosehip Seed Oil. You are better off buying the pure, undiluted, organic essential oil and supplementing with a follow-up application of your preferred brand of day or night cream, hand lotion, etc. You could even create your own personalized face serum by adding to this a drop of another concern-free, natural and organic beauty oil (such as argan oil, carrot seed oil, and/or vitamin E.) This will further extend your supply - and your beauty budget.
Since only a small amount is necessary, one bottle will last a long time. I use Aubrey Organics Revitalizing Therapy Serum Intensive Antioxidant (USD $13 for .33 oz) twice daily and find the bottle lasts about three months. Larger bottles, such as Aura Cacia's Rosehip Seed Oil (USD $9 for 1 oz) are ideal for someone looking to apply the product more broadly to other areas of the body. One last note: check the label on your bottle, or with the manufacturer. The beneficial ingredients oxidize (break down) over time so you should replace your bottle at least every two years.
