After creating a website, getting traffic is the next goal. There are many ways to get traffic, such as paid advertising and marketing techniques, however, SEO (Search engine optimization) is arguably the most effective and the cheapest. This article will explore how you can carry out or improve your website's SEO.

Text rich
For search engines, such as Google, to find your website, they need to search through your text. If you website is primarily videos with little to no text, your chances of being found are minimal. Google bots search through the title of the website and through the body. Unfortunately, Google has realised they can not trust the meta tags so that is one of the few places that Google will not take information from.

When a user searches, they type in keywords, Google then matches those keywords with keywords from websites. If your website is rich in these target specific keywords you have a better chance of being ranked than a website that is not as rich in these keywords. To find what keywords are most searched and the competition surrounding those keywords, Google has released the 'Google keywords tool'. The tool is very simple to use but information provided should be taken into consideration when choosing a website to make and writing content.

Backlinks, also known as incoming links, inbound links, inlinks, and inward links. They are incoming links to a website or web page. In basic link terminology, a backlink is any link received by a web node (web page, directory, website, or top level domain) from another web node. Google used backlinks to calculate the quality of a website. If a website has a copious amount of backlinks, Google assumes that this website is a reputable source and will refer Google users to it. Gaining backlinks can be easy but extremely time consuming. There are two options of going about this, the first bing manual submission of articles and blog comments and the second being the use of backlinks tools such as g sniper. Both methods are effective and help the major search engines both see your website and realise its authority.

Google AdWords
Although Google AdWords is not strictly SEO, it can be a great way to make sure your website is at the top of Google for every user to see.  This product is expensive but very useful if you feel your website has the potential for users to revisit. The website owner bids on add space with $1, $2 or $3 bids and the highest bidder wins the best spot on a Google search. Using the AdWords tool is extremely beneficial as you can optimise your budget to get the best results possible.

With well implemented SEO your website could have the potential to rank on the first page of Google or even the first position of the first page. This will drive the greatest amount of traffic towards your website and increase your profits.
