Safe Approaches to MMA Training

Maximize your training results by maintaining safe habits

MMA training is quite unique because by its very nature it requires the study of several disciplines. In the most basic of descriptions, this type of training entails learning striking, ground grappling, and the bridge between the two known as the clinch. While all of these elements can be combined into single MMA workouts, most students and fighters will find it necessary to study the arts separately in their pure form. The benefit to this would be specializing in specific areas of particular arts will work tremendously well as a means of enhancing skill in those areas. That would be a far wiser approach than only blending everything into one single solitary class. This is why so many MMA gyms split the training of the various arts into several classes.

Of course, this does raise a few obvious MMA training concerns. Studying several arts requires quite a bit of time and dedication. With this will also come the looming specter of burnout and over-training. Many are able to properly juggle these various arts without much trouble. Is there a secret to being able to do so during MMA training without suffering from physical injuries or getting worn out?

There are a few ways you can train a variety of arts and reduce you potential for burnout and overtraining. Following such advice will mean you do not have to miss any mixed martial arts in Portland classes. Among them would be the following:

  • Try to train at a slower and more moderate pace when you are training two or more hours per day. If you try to go all out for extended workout sessions you will soon discover that your body begins to break down. This certainly would not be a benefit to your training in any way.

 

  • Avoid training more than three or four days a week. You may think more training would equal greater is development but this is not always the case. Rather, you may find that the more frequently you train the greater your potential for over-training becomes. That would not be much of a help to anyone wishing to become skilled at MMA.  Follow this advice unless you are trying to go pro in which case your coach will be helping you put together a personalized plans.  This bring us to the final point...

 

  • Ask your coach for advice. Really, that is what your coach is there for. If you are not sure about how to approach your training sessions or what would be the best training frequency to employ, you should ask your coach for advice on the matter.

 

One of the best benefits to MMA training is that it opens your eyes to the proper way to pace yourself and avoid over-training. As long as you understand a few insights into how to train properly, you will find out you can easily maximize your MMA workout sessions.
