If you've ever been interested in salvage auto auctions, then this article was written for you. Specifically, we're going to talk about what these types of auctions are, what you can expect if you do to one, and why they can be of benefit to you. By the time you have finished reading this guide, you'll be raring to visit your local salvage auto auction!

Salvage auto auctions are where insurance companies sell the cars that have come into their possession. Insurance companies will take ownership of cars for various reasons, such as when cars are stolen and later recovered, or when the original owner of a car no longer wants it because it has sustained damage in some kind of accident or natural disaster.

The insurance company then wants to sell these cars as quickly and as easily as possible to get back some of the money they paid out for them, and auctions may be one of the easiest ways of all to sell automobiles. Even so, the insurance companies usually don't hold these auctions themselves. Instead, a special auto auction company will hold the salvage auction for them and make commissions on the cars sold.

Insurance Auto Auctions, Inc. is one of the largest and most well-known of these companies, as is Salvage Direct. Other private salvage auto auction companies operate regionally, like Midway Auto Salvage Auctions, which holds auctions in the Deep South.

Some cars sold at auto auctions have been wrecked beyond repair; they are often purchased by parts dealers who can later sell off whatever salvageable parts remain. Still, many such cars are perfectly operable and thus represent good bargains to the general public. Other cars require extensive repair, but these can usually be bought for next to nothing, fixed up, and then sold at a much higher price.

Now that you have finished reading this guide, you should be excited by the possibilities of picking up a cheap car at your local salvage auto auction.
