Sample Job Descriptions

By Edited Sep 28, 2015 0 0

As an employer, coming up with a job description is an important part of the hiring process.  If you are hiring for the same position over and over, you probably have a standard description that you are using.  However, if you are hiring for that position because of a high turnover, maybe you should change the description to get a better qualified candidate.

The job description should tell the prospective employee:

  • The basic everyday duties
  • What qualifications and skills are required before applying
  • The good points
  • The bad points
  • If anything about the job is expected to change in the future
  • The salary

A clear job description helps to let the applicant know exactly what they are applying for, so there are not misunderstanding later.  It lets them where they will fit into the organization.  It also helps in the hiring process.  Those in charge of hiring can use the job description to filter the applicants, by seeing if they meet the qualification and skill requirements.

The format of job descriptions should be standardized throughout the company.  You can develop a job description by collecting information from the manager of the employee position, and from other employee already doing that, or similar, jobs.
