Downtown San Diego is much different from other cities' downtown areas. It is relatively small and manageable, but with a unique personality. The town itself is quite small, and it is easy to find your way around. Balboa Park, which surrounds the San Diego Zoo, is about a mile north of Broadway, and has over a dozen different museums and attractions. Some of them are even free! You can take a trolley ride around this area, or take a short hike through a wide variety of trail mediums.

If you are looking for an extremely memorable experience, you should definitely check out Hillcrest for a night on the town. Known as the artistic part of town, you will feel like you are in a different world as soon as you enter this lively San Diego neighborhood.

If you are staying downtown, not only do you have a hundred different restaurants and bars in walking distance, but you are also only about twenty minutes from such famous attractions as the San Diego Zoo, Wild Animal Park and Sea World. And, it wouldn't be a vacation to San Diego if you don't visit Mission Beach at least once while you're here.
