If you're looking for a good mix of adventure and excitement, beautiful sightseeing and rest and relaxation then a San Francisco vacation may be for you. This place literally has it all! Nestled along a beautiful bay along the coast in central California, the city began to grow during the California Gold Rush in the 1800's. Today, it is a hot spot for tourism, culture and the arts. It is also one of the most unique places when it comes to means of transportation: subways, trolleys, buses, boats and bikes abound to help you get around town in ease and style.

The city is home to multiple sports teams such as the Giants who play baseball in the National League, the football team called the 49ers. It is also close to Oakland, where the Athletics of the American League play baseball, and another football club, the Raiders. As such, a San Francisco vacation is ideal for a sports lover.

A San Francisco vacation is also good for nature and animal lovers. Given its location on the bay, there are plenty of opportunities for cruises. Consider a cruise around Alcatraz, the famous ex-prison island that was once home to some of America's most notorious gangsters.

Fisherman's wharf is one of the main reasons that people choose a San Francisco vacation. It is the starting off point for many cruises on the bay. Also, there are plenty of excellent restaurants in the area. Most of the restaurants specialize in seafood, but there is enough cuisine to satisfy every taste.

Also at the wharf you'll be able to find an aquarium where you can check out various types of sea life. Then, there's several naval attractions (such as restored ships or submarines), and plenty of opportunities for recreation. For example, you can rent bicycles or book other types of tours.

As far as culture is concerned, no San Francisco vacation is complete without a trip to Chinatown. The city's Chinatown is one of the largest and oldest in the country. There are tons of unique shops and restaurants that can give you a taste for the Far East!

Lombard Street is a unique tourist destination that is quite a sight to see! It is a road that goes down a steep hill. Along the way, the block twists and turns every which way you could imagine. Lining the street are flower gardens in between each twist!

Of course, no San Francisco vacation would be complete without the most recognizable symbol of the city: The Golden Gate Bridge. It is a beautiful and vividly colored orange-red suspension bridge located over the straits between the bay and the Pacific Ocean. At the time that it was completed (1937) it was the largest suspension bridge in the world. In the 21st century, it still remains among the largest though it has been surpassed by a few others.

Whether you're looking for action-packed fun or a getaway from the everyday, a San Francisco vacation has everything you could possibly want. As long as you know what you want, you can find it there.
