Save Money on your Grocery Bill: Easy tips to stretch a dollar
Groceries can add up fast! While we have to eat, we do not have to break the
bank to put dinner on the table. Here are a few tips how to bring home the bacon
and have some cash left over.
Always shop with a list of exactly what
you need, this will help you to stick to it and get only what you came for. A
great way to stick to what you need is to pay attention to the aisle banners
above each row in the store. Avoid aisle's that don't have items on your
list.
The checkout can be a hazard on the wallet, avoid last minute
impulse purchases like magazines and candy bars, and whatever else they're
trying to sell you. If you have a magazine you tend to keep picking up each
month, just subscribe for the year and save yourself at least $20!
One of
the best ways to save money on groceries actually happens once the groceries get
home. By keeping food waste to a minimum, you can seriously stretch your budget.
Use up leftovers quickly (keep a list on the fridge if necessary so you remember
what's inside) or freeze them for later use. If you're cooking for just one or
two, freeze leftovers in single-size portions, they'll make quick and easy
dinners on nights when you're too busy or too tired to cook. If you are cooking
for a larger group, simply plan ahead, leftover meats and poultry make great
soups and stews for the next night, with only a few vegetables and a can of
soup.
Coupons are probably the best way to save on groceries. While you
stick to your list, and plan ahead, you can't beat getting a discount on the
food you always buy.
Knowing how coupons work is essential, and there are
different types of coupons. Manufactures coupons and store coupons are different
and for the most part retailers allow both coupons to be used together. This
means double the savings.
When it comes to coupons, the key is knowing
where to get them. Newspaper flyers and mailers are a great place to find
coupons, but the internet is an even better tool. Today some websites offer
coupons that you can easily print at home, allowing you to save up to 100% of
the items you regularly buy.
Take the time to plan ahead, and follow
your plan in the grocery store. But before you get to the store take a minute to
clip, or print coupons that can help you bank a few extra dollars.

Another tip to saving on groceries is to buy in bulk. A larger container is often cheaper per serving than a smaller container. Not always though. Sometimes the smaller container on sale is a better deal.
